The team

Our team in Energy Saving Trust manages the national Home Energy Scotland service on behalf of the Scottish Government. The climate emergency and the current fuel price crisis means the work of Home Energy Scotland has never been more important. Our team is making a real difference to people’s lives, and we are also growing rapidly. We need to recruit more skilled and dedicated people to join our team now.

Our team collaborates widely with colleagues in Energy Saving Trust, staff across the Home Energy Scotland network and many other partners across Scotland. You will be working with people and organisations to help tackle fuel poverty and the climate emergency, both directly, and through a network of regional advice centres covering all of Scotland.

The role

This role will form part of the Home Energy Scotland team and will develop advice and training content for a range of services and media. You will be responsible for creating new advice resources, web content and training materials, as well as modifying, improving and repurposing existing content, working with colleagues across the organisation to ensure that advice content is accurate, appropriate, engaging and fit for purpose.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and update content and resources to support Home Energy Scotland’s advice services.
  • Review all advice materials used by Home Energy Scotland regularly for accuracy, relevance, consistency and suitability and ensure that the sources feeding into the advice materials are checked and approved by the Energy Saving Trust knowledge team and clearly referenced.
  • Develop expertise in the content of advice materials used by Home Energy Scotland and our quality framework to ensure we continue to deliver high quality advice to the public.
  • Organise materials or guidance and deliver training sessions or workshops to help staff within the advice centres to improve quality and performance when delivering advice to improve the outcomes achieved.
  • Work closely with our fuel poverty support officers who deal with complex cases or appeals where a householder has made an unsuccessful application for assistance, to ensure the responses supplied are of consistently high quality.

What you’ll bring

The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.

You will have the ability to write effectively for a range of audiences and channels including web, e-learning, presentations, factsheets and supporting materials. You will understand interpretation and translation, accessibility, and needs of specific audiences to produce appropriate advice resources.

You will be confident in creating presentations and experienced in explaining technical information to a non-technical audience, with a strong focus on customer/client quality and satisfaction.

You will be supported by the HES team, who have been providing energy advice to the public for many years; as well as the knowledge team who lead the field in delivering data and insight on the energy transition.
