Working within Merchandising Capabilities, your mission will be to help build and sustain an industry-leading portfolio of global capabilities that drive financial growth, enable efficiency, and unlock joy for each Guest. As a member of the Merchandising Capabilities team, you will enable and drive critical business operations to deliver day-to-day results, while continually building and advancing capabilities for the future


Merchandising, Capabilities, & Strategy (“MCS”) teams are undergoing a significant amount of change, driven both by cross-functional initiatives to improve to people, process and technology, as prioritized through the Enterprise Operating Model work, as well as by functional modernization efforts. The MCS Process and Communications team within Merchandising Capabilities has been established to:

  • Lead and drive communication to teams and cross-functional training coordination based on functional/capability evolution
  • Facilitate sequencing of solutions and change within various areas of expertise
  • Drive communication in service of roundtable evolution
  • Manage portfolio view of communication, training and maintenance needs in service of implementation and run state
  • Assess audience readiness, as well as recommend sequencing and approach of communication plans

As a Director, Merch Ops Change and Communications team you will set the overall strategic vision for your Change and Communications team, are accountable for succeeding against identified business outcomes and metrics, will stand up a new team, set the short and long term goals, and quarterly Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). In addition, you are responsible to create and maintain the governance framework, measurements, and planning routines / tools to track activities and business outcomes.

You will be accountable for building, coaching, and mentoring a strong team of communication and change management experts while also building a strong team culture of progress, transparency, and efficiency across MCS. You will be responsible to elevate your collective team’s performance by providing insightful, motivating, and constructive feedback to all roles on the team while also working with senior leadership and peers across pyramids to negotiate and remove execution related barriers for your teams. You will be responsible for leading a team of team members and engaging with partners across MCS (Buying, Planning, Merch Capabilities, OBS&D and ISG) and the Enterprise (GIM, EOM, Stores, Digital, etc).

  • You will be building and developing a new team that is highly engaged, curious, collaborative, and solution-oriented.
  • You will champion diversity and inclusivity in your talent decisions, your daily behaviors, and the culture you foster within the team.
  • You will work in service of delivering large inter-connected outcomes for our MCS teams. You will serve as the accountable owner on the Change and Communication Team to lead cross functional planning and coordinated delivery for change management experience and communication, including cross functional storytelling and tactics
  • You will serve as the liaison between MCS functional operations teams and EOM to determine the appropriate sequencing and cadence of change and communication delivered to MCS core teams
  • You will collaborate with and influence partners across MCS core roundtable members, functional operations and EOM to create and execute unique communication and change management strategies tailored to the needs of the business.
  • You will lead strategy development and oversee execution, and will coach team members to solve challenging problems in support of the total roundtable enable sustained performance and adoption of new initiatives.
  • You will leverage your understanding of communication and change management along with MCS operations to drive innovative and scalable solutions for change management, engagement and adoption

About you:

  • 4-year degree in business, communication or journalism or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of communication and/or change management experience or equivalent domain experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships across team, leader, and partners
  • Ability to set a vision for the team, develop clear milestones and metrics to track progress against goals with proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and prioritize effectively for direct reports
  • Ability to provide constructive action-oriented feedback and develop and influence leaders, including experience with cross-functional matrixed environment
  • Strong change management skills and proven ability to influence both at a strategic leadership level and cross functionally
  • Ability to lead and influence a team while fostering relationships across multiple enterprise wide teams
  • Demonstrated ability to be agile, flexible and resilient; comfortable working in an ambiguous and constantly changing environment
  • Ability to breakdown complex problems despite incomplete or ambiguous information, identify root cause of the issue, and develop sustainable solutions in collaboration with subject matter experts
  • Demonstrated understanding on how to operationalize new solutions for team members throughout enterprise

Desired Qualifications

  • MBA or advanced degree in related field
  • Change Management / PROSCI
  • Project management experience or PMP Certification
  • Certified Product Manager
