Job Description

Aethercomm designs and manufactures RF and Microwave amplifier modules, subsystems and systems. The majority of our work is custom. The reliability and effectiveness of thousands of Aethercomm products has been tested and proven in combat, helping to protect and save the lives of our warfighters.

Aethercomm is looking to fill a Component Engineer position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide support to design and project engineering throughout the development, pre-production, and production phases of new and heritage products and designs.
  • Act as the responsible Component Engineer, serving as the focal point for all EEE parts selection and reliability testing activities for assigned products or product lines.
  • Support and train in the following core activities and functions:
  • Offer expertise and support in Electrical, Electronic, Electromagnetic (EEE) parts for Space and other High-Reliability programs.
  • Review customer Statements of Work (SOWs) and specifications to identify parts requirements.
  • Assess components for compliance with program and industry PMP requirements (INST-002, TOR, JEDEC, etc.).
  • Generate plans, procedures, and procurement and screening documents (SCDs, SoCDs, SIDs, and AIDs) for military and aerospace programs according to MIL/NASA standards and contract requirements.
  • Write and review Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for component-level procurement and test control documents.
  • Review screening and test data received from manufacturers and test laboratories for compliance with specifications, purchase order requirements, and program contract compliance.
  • Evaluate defective components and failure analysis reports as needed.
  • Collaborate with Electrical Design Engineers, Reliability Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, and Quality Engineers to mitigate risks and conduct material reviews.
  • Perform and review key Reliability Analyses, including Prediction, Derating, and FMECA.
  • Apply military and aerospace industry reliability criteria (MIL-HDBK-217F, MIL-STD-1547B, etc.) to analyses and coordinate adjustments for compliance with designers.
  • Handle component changes due to obsolescence or supply shortages - Assist with location of component sources vendors and manufacturers, locate alternate sources, find components substitutions along with qualification strategy.
  • Identification of alternate parts.
  • Be familiar with EEE-INST-002, screening/qualifications. Also familiar with MIL-STD parts and having knowledge of parts functions and purposes for effective selections.
  • Manage documentation, drawings, maintain PADs and/or SolidWorks part libraries and test records for components, along with providing specs for components that meet requirements given preferred.
  • Communicate, coordinate, and consult with cross-functional team, and recommending changes.
  • Investigate alternate component technologies or suppliers that reduce cost, improve quality, reliability, and/or exportability and implement changes as approved.
  • Review prototype designs for potential issues, and develop and execute tests to confirm acceptable performance.
  • Stay up to date on phases of the project along with deadlines.
  • Ensure effective communication among all parties involved in a project.
  • Be aware of part/project changes, and quickly adapt to those changes.
  • Contacting authorized companies to get more information on parts.
  • Ensure that projects are completed accurately and on time.
  • Ensure company compliance in accordance with AS9100.
  • Perform all other duties assigned.

Competencies:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, and three to five years related experience and/or training or greater. Or two years’ experience with a Master’s Degree (M.S.) from a four-year college in Physics or Electrical/Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and quality control standards.

Computer Skills:

MS Office, (Word, Excel, Outlook), CAD (SolidWorks preferred), MRP, and other modeling and analysis tools, and PowerPoint programs Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Basic ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Higher level mathematics, such as calculus and working knowledge of trigonometry statistics, is also required.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense and logic to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Able to balance multiple projects and tasks to meet deadlines. Being organized and use critical thinking.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be required to sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; lift and move objects weighing up to 40 lbs; close vision, distance vision, depth perception and visibility to adjust focus; verbal communication; travel via car and airplane to client implementations; training and onsite visits.


Must be a US Person and be able to obtain a US Security Clearance.
