UNST Teaching Assistant Professors (TAP) are core-faculty members in University Studies (UNST). Working with the UNST Senior Inquiry Director, faculty in this position teach Senior Inquiry (a program which offers Freshmen Inquiry in area high schools for dual credit) with a team of high school teachers. This responsibility includes collaborative curriculum development, team building with high school faculty, maintaining quality and accreditation standards of Senior Inquiry courses. University Studies is recruiting to fill three full-time Teaching Assistant Professor positions at various high schools.
The Senior Inquiry TAP position is a 9-month non-variable FTE position. Generally, the TAP will teach two, 15-credit Senior Inquiry courses at one of University Studies’ partner high schools. Or, they may teach one 15-credit course in high school and have planning, preparation and support in their high school, or a combination of courses between high school and the PSU main campus. Specific details of the teaching load and duties are subject to the academic judgment of the UNST Executive Director. This position will also have an Early Start wage-agreement with prorated stipend for high school sessions that begin before September 16 and summer in-service training.
Senior Inquiry courses currently take place at Westview, Jefferson, Leodis V. McDaniel, Reynolds, Roosevelt, and Liberty High Schools. Ideal candidates for this position have experience in the following areas:
- engagement with (deconstruction of) privilege(s), especially their own
- teaching Race and Social Justice
- designing and implementing curriculum that embeds the UNST goals of teaching communication; inquiry and critical thinking;diversity, equity, and social justice; and ethics, agency, and community
- collaborating with high school faculty, students, staff, fellow instructors, and the administrators overseeing dual credit
Various assignments for non-tenure track instructional and research faculty may include direct instruction, supporting scholarly activities, and service to the University, community, and profession. Expectations for the position are summarized below and will be the principal components upon which annual review and reappointment decisions will be based.
