Job Description

Overview:
The Developer of Learning, Experience and Programming is responsible for coordination and implementation of large-scale cultural celebrations and intergenerational public programs that support OMCA’s brand as a museum, garden and gathering place and advance its social impact of building trust, understanding, and connection between people and communities. The position specifically collaborates with staff, partners, and community members to develop OMCA’s annual Lunar New Year festival and Dia de los Muertos celebration and intergenerational programs and resources, such as Friday Nights at OMCA, that connect audiences to the Museum’s exhibitions, core galleries, and collections.

The position works in partnership with a unit of Program Managers and Program Developers who work cross-functionally and support a cohesive slate of programming, learning, and experience activities.
Responsibilities:

INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • All positions will have core functional responsibilities, cross functional team activation and learning and development as a core function of each role.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Development & Implementation
  • Research, develop, implement, and evaluate cultural celebrations and intergenerational public programs that explore and amplify the big ideas & key messages of OMCA’s exhibition and collection gallery programs, contribute directly to the Museum’s institutional goals, and foster deep community relationships.
  • Work directly with cross-functional and project teams to brainstorm and identify program formats, community collaborations, and subject expertise that support intergenerational learning experiences.
  • Research, contract, and manage program participants (e.g. artists, historians, scientists, businesses, libraries, schools, community centers, and organizations, etc.) for deepening and broadening the museum’s civic engagement and participation of youth and families with young children.
  • Manage the timeline, expenses, and all pre-planning duties for Lunar New Year Festival, Dia de los Muertos cultural celebration, and select partnership programs, with support from LEP Manager.
  • Schedule and attend partner planning meetings and site walk-throughs and serve as primary point of contact for all partners and vendors.
  • Coordinate internal logistics across multiple departments and work closely with Facilities and Safety staff, Engineers, Custodial, Security and AV to ensure smooth set up, implementation, breakdown and final cleanup of programs.
  • Develop staffing plan and lead an orientation for staff and volunteers assisting with cultural celebrations and partnership programs, with support from the Volunteer Programs team.
  • Provide staffing, setup and load-in/out support for other public programs, including Friday Nights at OMCA (April – October) and Thursday evening programming (November–March). Supervise volunteers as needed.

Research & Evaluation
  • Support the development of program rationale and audience outcomes, implementation and evaluation plans. Manage internal stakeholder input; maintain current and accurate program data.
  • Collaborate with evaluators to develop and execute formative, front end, remedial and summative evaluation of cultural celebrations ;
  • Incorporate visitor research and evaluation findings—both from OMCA and the broader field—into exhibition and programming projects.
Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE
  • 3-5 years of related experience.
  • B.A. degree in related field preferred.
  • English language proficiency in both spoken and written form; second language (particularly Spanish or Chinese) is desirable.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and a history of building equitable and inclusive programming.
  • Experience in program planning and management for diverse intergenerational audiences.
  • Arts administration experience particularly in developing and coordinating large-scale public programs and cultural celebrations.
  • Works well in a deeply collaborative, highly fluid culture.
  • Ability to display and encourage visitor and internal customer service, take and share responsibility and treat others with respect.
  • Knowledge of partnership and contract negotiations and management.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and applications including Google Suite and MS Office.

  • Museum environment involves both indoor and outdoor working conditions.
  • Ability to travel between OMCA locations, and other travel as required by position responsibilities.
  • Engage with diverse visitor populations for extended periods of time in the galleries or throughout the campus.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including Friday evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

COMPENSATION: $36.38 - $36.38 hourly
