Summary of Job Duties:
Learn and operate a centralized computer system and LIS in the laboratory. Verify patient identity and test(s) to be performed prior to specimen collection. Accurately collect and process appropriate patient samples for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Tracks specimens per PWHC protocol (labeling; processing via practice management specimen, etc.) Following Universal precautions as defined in the policy for the collection and disposal of specimens. Perform basic waived testing as well as CBC's when needed. Utilizes good hand-washing and wears protective equipment as appropriate. Maintaining a clean work/lab draw area. Maintaining medical equipment such as needles, test tubes, and blood vials. Disposing of sharps and bio-hazardous materials as per protocol. Understands the importance of and adheres to all HIPAA/confidentiality policies, procedures, regulations, and Saturday availability.

Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is
the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships
with others.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
  • Phlebotomy Certificate from a registered program or equivalency
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least one year of experience in a clinical laboratory
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of the principles of Quality Control related to test kits
  • Ability to perform waived tests and interpret results
  • Ability to maintain laboratory equipment
  • Dependability
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent ability to multi-task
  • Ability to maintain records accurately
  • Ability to communicate effectively
