Department Summary & Job Purpose:

Disability Services is seeking an entry-level staff member to join a team focused on the delivery of accommodations and services for students with disabilities. The role is on campus and is done in person. The successful candidate will join the Disability Services Office, the College’s office, to provide academic, residential, dining, and on-campus student-employment accommodations for students with documented disabilities.

Primary responsibilities include serving as the office’s initial point of contact by monitoring the office’s phone and general email, as well as the coordination of disability-related documentation for students as part of their registration with Disability Services Secondly, the Disability Services Office Coordinator will coordinate the implementation accommodations that support student’s note-taking. Finally, the Coordinator will support the creation of accessible course materials for students with documented needs.

The Disability Services Office Coordinator reports to the Director of Disability Services Operations.


Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Task will be roughly divided evenly between coordinating note-taking, office administrative tasks, and work in support of the technology access coordinator and providing assistive technology for students.
  • Note-taking Coordination
  • Coordinating note-taking support accommodations for students registered with Disability Services
  • Screening and hiring student workers to serve as note-takers
  • Providing training and supervision of note-takers
  • Overseeing the electric collection and dissemination of notes to registered students
  • Participation in the assessment efforts and data collection related to note-taking
  • Engagement and leadership in efforts to streamline and improve hiring practices and implementation of the note-taking accommodation
  • Maintaining appropriate account access to Glean software for those with documented needs and supporting those using the software
  • Office Management
  • Support the Disability Services Student Fellows program in logistics and programming
  • Participate in Disability Services team meetings and work collaboratively as a member of the team in planning and implementation of office services and activities.
  • Provide administrative support to the Office of Disability Services, including:
  • The tracking of students through the registration process
  • Maintaining internal organization and supporting annual processes
  • Maintain internal and external information regarding the department and services offered
  • Running periodic reports regarding demographics, and accommodation use, as requested for the office and for external entities for reporting purposes and assessment efforts
  • Managing the Disability Services email, phone, and other inquiries.
  • Triaging questions and requests
  • Supervise or support supervision of Disability Services’ student workers, including notetakers, accessible document assistant(s), Kaltura caption editor(s), and learning partner(s) (readers)
  • Participate in the development of training and resources consistent with the College’s goals of access, equity, and inclusion for faculty, staff, and students Assistive Technology
  • Complete and/or coordinate the document conversion of course materials into high-quality alternatively formatted media such as electronic text (e-text), digital audio, and enlarged text. This includes identifying and contacting external resources such as publishers, AccessText, and other websites
  • Assist in training and supervision of eligible students on the use of alternate media and assistive technology hardware and software appropriate to their learning style.
  • Support the coordination, acquisition, and upkeep of software, hardware, and other auxiliary aids (i.e., interpreters, live captioning services, etc.).
  • Manage the loan library of disability accommodation equipment to students
  • Manage communication to faculty regarding alternative format needs in courses.
  • Assist in the evaluation, procurement, installation, configuring, installing, maintenance, and trouble-shooting of various hardware and software involved in delivering support services such as Dragon Naturally Speaking, Kurzweil 3000 and 1000, and JAWS.
  • Participate in the development of training and resources consistent with the College’s goals of access, equity, and inclusion for faculty, staff, and students
  • And other relevant tasks as assigned and necessary


Qualifications: • Candidate must have strong organizational skills, ease with working with students, and experience in a collaborative team setting.
  • Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to work independently.
  • Individuals with experience in higher education, assistive technology, student support, or working with students with disabilities are preferred. College degree is preferred. Enumerated responsibilities. This position would be ideal for individuals who are exploring disability work or are interested in exploring student services work in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Individuals with experience in higher education, assistive technology, student support, or working with students with disabilities are preferred.
  • Interest in learning more about assistive technology and disability services is required

Physical Demands: Position is largely sedentary work requiring repetitive wrists, hands, and finger motions. Employee will need to be able to receive detailed information through oral communication. Employee must have the ability to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and possess sufficient clarity of speech to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and via video conferencing. Employee is is required to be able to prepare figures, view a computer terminal and engage in extensive reading of text and figures. Employee will also operate office equipment and computers to perform essential duties and responsibilities.

Working Conditions: The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
