Scope of Job
Manage the development of scalable opportunities and programs which empower all students to identify career paths that ultimately lead to career success upon graduation. Provide every student with high quality career education by designing scalable and multi-modal career development initiatives and by leading a career champions network across UTRGV.
Description of Duties
- Oversees the design, development, and implementation of career education and preparation programming and aligned materials by focusing on personal/professional and skill development to close the gap between career exploration and career preparation.
- Oversees effort to create career content, scale and integrate career development into the fabric of the campus and creates and activates a robust career ecosystem serving all students from every college and major.
- Cultivates a team and campus community that aims to prepare all students for their future careers.
- Manages multiple priorities and projects achieving both short- and long-term goals.
- Leverages data to inform and assess career education activities, resulting in increased student engagement and impact with underserved academic units and student populations.
- Collaborates with Career Center leadership to implement relevant technology, communication, and collecting and leveraging data insights.
- Supervises and supports the work of staff working on career success initiatives.
- Leads a team of cutting-edge Student Career Advisors who will serve as the front line to serve UTRGV students.
- Serves as a liaison and strategist in building and managing relationships with individual colleges.
- Expands engagement with key departments on campus such as Academic Advising, Pre-professional Advising, Athletics, Student Life, and other key stakeholders.
- Creates and leads a Career Champions Network, consistent of faculty and staff champions who will expand the campus community’s ability to meet every student’s career development needs, regardless of major or college.
- Supports employer connection efforts to connect academic units, offices, and students with relevant experiential learning and/or employment opportunities.
- Provides career education advising, teaching, and training to students during high volume student engagement times in support of career advising staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in higher education, guidance and counseling, human resources, social sciences, or related field.
Licenses/Certifications
None.
Required Experience
Four (4) years of experience creating and developing strategic student success programming, job placement or career counseling, including supervisory experience.
Preferred Experience
Experience leading a team of career advisors that support career education with faculty, staff, and other campus stakeholders. Collaborating with career center leadership to transform and embed the department mission and vision.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
