Fixed Term or Hourly Paid Sessional Teaching Fellow in Graphic Design, Fashion, Fashion Marketing and Illustration


Employment type: Fixed-term contract

Employment basis: Part-time/Full time

Salary: Fixed Term Sessional Teaching Fellow: £38,474 - £41,931 per annum pro rata

Hourly Paid Sessional Teaching Fellow: £19.94 - £21.73 per hour

We seek to appoint part-time hourly paid lecturers/tutors to contribute to the delivery of our undergraduate and/or post graduate curriculum. The number of hours worked is flexible and by negotiation. The rate of pay will include remuneration for all work done in connection with teaching, preparation, setting and marking of work and examinations, related course administration and holiday pay accrued.

We are seeking to recruit part-time hourly paid lecturers to support teaching in several areas across the School of Art Design and Performance. As well as good general subject knowledge, applicants should demonstrate specialist experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Illustration: For example, a broad range of skills in drawing, editorial and book design, graphic novels, zines and book arts. It is preferred that the applicant has a highly visible and respected professional profile. It is essential that applicants are up to date with the latest image making software and technology. Specialism in all areas is not required but knowledge of the history and theory of illustration is desirable. Professional experience in the industry is essential.

  • Fashion Marketing: for example, a broad understanding of fashion marketing communications and practice in the fashion sector including creative and strategic skills, global fashion retail and fashion design management, consumer insight and customer experience, social media marketing, and fashion branding. (NB for a number of these areas industry experience is highly valued).

  • Graphic Design: An inspirational ability to communicate well with and guide students' projects. Share valuable insights into professional practice, self promotion,branding, identity and industry with a respected public profile and excellent portfolio of work and/or UX design, with ability to teach Figma

  • Fashion Design: A broad understanding of garment cutting, construction and printing processes. Experience of professional practice within the fashion industry and/or fashion education. Knowledge of contemporary practices such as Clo3D and Adobe Software. A broad understanding of sustainable design approaches.

Successful candidates will be appointed to the Art Design and Performance bank of Sessional Teaching Fellows staff and offered hours as required to cover staff shortages.

Sessional Teaching Fellows are entitled to pro-rata annual leave allowance which is included within their contracts.

Sessional Teaching Fellows are expected to follow and deliver the established curriculum and contribute to assessment activities including marking, moderation of assessments and dissertation supervision. Although a certain amount of independence in planning and delivering of teaching and assessment is expected, post holders will need to communicate well with other staff (both academic and professional services) and work effectively as part of a teaching team.
