Data Center Technical Support-Advisor I

What does a great Data Center Technical Support Advisor do at Fiserv?

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of data centers, including installing, upgrading and maintenance of hardware and equipment at assigned site as well as decommissioning both individual devices and site decommissioning support where needed. Collect and provide on-site information to support the design and performance of the data center; respond to and assist in resolving complex equipment issues. Provide direction and oversight to junior members of all teams regarding infrastructure placement. Support remote site installs, decommissions, and assist in facilitating necessary work.

What you will do:

  • Support and implementation of data centers including installing, upgrading, cabling and maintenance of hardware and equipment at assigned data centers.
  • Partner with off-site staff (e.g., Engineers, IT department staff, etc.) to collect and provide on-site information to address data center floor space, equipment installation, upgrading, cabling or technical maintenance, and to resolve issues at the site.
  • In-depth knowledge of all things related to data centers. Must be familiar with partnering with Facilities staff to assist in planning for and provision appropriate IT power requirements and requests in the assigned data centers.
  • Monitor and respond to both basic and complex equipment issues with a sense of urgency, escalating appropriate for those issues outside of employee's control.
  • Respond to scheduled and unscheduled outages in a timely manner ensuring adherence to departmental procedures and standards appropriately escalating any issue outside employee control.
  • Project Support - Participate in the activities associated with a variety of departmental projects ensuring established timelines are met. Assist in preparing reports, material and documentation as needed.
  • Customer Service - Establish and maintain a professional relationship with internal/external customers, team members and department contacts.
  • Cooperate with internal and external team members to meet goals or complete tasks.
  • Provide quality customer service that exceeds customer expectations and improves level of data center service being provided - Treat all internal/external customers, team members and department contacts with dignity/respect - Escalate to DCO Manager any situation outside the employee's control that could adversely impact the data center services being provided.
  • Extensive travel is necessary (75%) for this role as the individual will be assigned to remote site detail for FOS and FTS data center support.


What you will need to have:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree - Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent on the job experience. Management information systems.
  • Minimum 7-10 years Data Center or Telco/IDC Environment required.
  • Minimum 3 years operational knowledge of DCIM Tool.
  • Experience to include ticket facilitating/assignment, primary knowledge “go to” for data center install instructions/clarification.
  • Solid knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Visio required.

What would be great to have:

  • Solid knowledge of infrastructure cable management design to include cable tray install, trunking cable install and fiber cable certification testing.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to respond to incidents on a 24 x 7 on-call basis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written) with leadership.

This role is not eligible to be performed in Colorado, California, New York or Washington.
