Job Description

Job Purpose
The Academic Development Adviser role combines aspects of a traditional academic role with service-based duties.
There are three main parts to the role:
1. To contribute to the delivery of specific activities which support the Service’s delivery of an excellent student experience by advising and supporting staff on issues related to educational development in accordance with priorities identified by ADD management. (approx. 65% of the role)
2. To contribute to the teaching, assessment and administration processes associated with specific credit bearing (postgraduate) and accredited courses run by Academic & Digital Development (approx. 25% of the role) and Service, advice and support
3. To undertake appropriate scholarship to enhance learning, teaching and assessment in Academic & Digital Development and across the University (approx. 10% of the role).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Work with staff in Colleges and services to support the implementation of the University’s Learning and Teaching Strategy 2021-25.
2. Support and collaborate with Colleges and individual staff on all aspects of learning and teaching in higher education.
3. Work with colleagues to develop a range of appropriate and timely CPD events and resources to support teaching and learning practices across the University.
4. Support colleagues through the Recognising Excellent Teachers scheme to recognition and take part in decision-making processes for recognition as appropriate.
5. Support the ongoing and future development of a sector-leading, evidence-based inclusive approach to assessment and feedback that enables our students to be life-long, self-regulated learners who actively contribute to assessment and feedback processes.
6. Contribute to and embedding inclusive and evidence-based approaches to facilitating learning within, across and between disciplines in the University.
7. Contribute to using an anti-racism approach in curriculum design and delivery to link directly with the wider University strategy aligned with the Understanding Racism and Transforming University Cultures report and action plan.
8. Collaborate with colleagues across the Service, the University and more widely in the HE community to identify, evaluate, celebrate and disseminate good practice in learning, teaching and assessment.
9. Work to support ongoing and develop future institutional requirements for learning technology provision to ensure that the learning technology infrastructure supports a research-led, scholarly and technology-enhanced approach to student learning and assessment both in the Centre and more widely across the University
10. Support the development of inclusive and evidence-based approaches to facilitating learning within, across and between disciplines in the University
11. Provide advice and support to University of Glasgow Learning and Teaching Development Fund grant holders over the duration of their award funding period
12. Support staff in their preparations leading up to and following periodic subject reviews in collaboration with other central services and participate as a panel member on reviews as appropriate
13. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of, and engage with national and international developments in higher education e.g. through engagement with the Scottish Higher Education Enhancement Committee’s Quality Enhancement Themes, and with Advance HE.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 11 (Masters Degree) or equivalent professional and/or teaching experience.
A2 Appropriate qualification in either educational development, learning and teaching or technology-enhanced learning.
A3 Fellowship of Recognising in Teaching Excellence (RET) or Advance HE (formerly the Higher Education Academy), or ability to achieve this within 12 months of appointment.
Desirable
B1 Senior Fellowship of RET/ Advance HE
B2 Up-to-date knowledge and specialist understanding in the field with an ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of staff across the University to inspire learning and to provide support for individuals and groups in a range of disciplines.
B3 Knowledge of, and experience in, at least two of the following areas of the Service’s work: Assessment and Feedback; Curriculum Development; Pedagogic Development; Recognition Schemes for Higher Education staff against the UKPSF; Graduate Attributes and Employability; Technology Enhanced Learning and Teaching; Blended and Online Delivery; Support for the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Ability to contribute to the design, review and delivery of learning, teaching and assessment.
C2 Supporting staff in Schools, Research Institutes, Colleges and University Services to develop, plan and deliver learning and teaching initiatives and projects.
C3 Up-to-date knowledge and understanding in the field, with an ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of staff across the University to inspire learning and to provide support for individuals and groups in a range of disciplines.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Experience of planning and progressing work activities within professional guidelines or organisational policy, applying initiative and independent judgement.
E2 Experience of developing and demonstrating teaching methods; devising models, approaches, techniques, critiques and methods and disseminating and promoting these to other staff.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £38,474 - £43,155 per annum pro rata.
This post is part-time (14 hours per week), and open ended.
