Job Summary
Gonzaga University’s School of Business Administration (SBA) in Spokane, WA invites applications for one full-time, open-rank, tenure-track position (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) teaching in the area of accounting, beginning in the fall of 2024. The ideal candidate is expected to take part in teaching, professional development, academic citizenship and service, and advising as specified below.
Gonzaga University is located on the banks of the Spokane river approximately 1 mile from downtown Spokane. Spokane provides its residents with a variety of activities from accessible downtown shopping and entertainment to the beautiful landscape of the Inland Northwest. Essential Functions
Teaching—The faculty member will be expected to teach nine (9) accounting course credits each semester during the academic year at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. As part of our commitment to successful starts for our faculty, a one-semester, three-credit teaching load reduction is available to new faculty hires in their first year. Summer teaching opportunities may be available but are not required nor guaranteed.
Professional Development—This position will require that the faculty member (1) stay current with accounting theory and practice and conduct research within the accounting discipline which leads to publication in peer-reviewed academic journals; (2) actively participate in departmental and School of Business professional activities; and (3) maintain all current licenses and designations. Overall, the faculty member shall obtain and/or maintain SA (Scholarly Academic) status as defined by the AACSB and the SBA; the faculty member’s work and maintenance of SA status will be an important part of the annual review process within the SBA. Support is available to promote scholarly engagement.
Academic Citizenship & Service—The successful candidate will be a member of the faculty of the School of Business Administration, with full voting privileges in the university faculty assembly and the school. As such, the individual who assumes this position is expected to be a contributive member to the accounting area, the school, and the university. Regular meeting attendance at all university, school and departmental meetings is expected. In addition, participation in related school and departmental committees is required.
Advising – There are no advising requirements for first-year faculty, but advising will become part of the individual’s ongoing duties in the second year.

Minimum Qualifications
  • To be considered for Assistant Professor, the candidate must have:
    • A Ph.D. in Accounting or a related field
    • ABD in Accounting or a related field may be considered, with the expectation that the candidate will have their degree in hand by July 15, 2024
    • A record of early-stage scholarly activity (conference papers and presentations, working papers, and/or journal contributions)
    • A record of early-stage teaching development or teaching activity
    • Demonstrated commitment to Gonzaga’s mission
    • Demonstrated ability to implement inclusive, equity-minded teaching practices.


  • To be considered Associate Professor, the candidate must meet the required qualifications of an Assistant Professor and have:
    • At least five years of successful experience at the rank of Assistant Professor
    • Evidence of teaching excellence
    • A well-defined scholarly agenda with a record of scholarship (e.g., publications, presentations, etc.)
    • A record of successful advising


  • To be considered Full Professor, the candidate must meet the required qualifications of an Associate Professor and have:
    • At least five years of successful experience at the rank of Associate Professor
    • A scholarly record of a mature and established scholar

Desired Qualifications
  • Preferred qualifications for Assistant Professor candidates include:
    • A record of successful student advising
    • An established record of teaching and/or course development
    • Demonstrated ability to teach in one or more complementary accounting disciplines, such as sustainability, financial reporting and analysis, data analytics, and/or information systems
    • Pre-academic industry involvement
    • Professional certifications pertinent to accounting and/or tax (i.e. CPA, CGMA, CFE)


  • Preferred qualifications for Associate Professor or Full Professor candidates include (in addition to those above):
    • A demonstrated ability to help others grow in their professional capacities
    • Evidence of curricular innovation
    • A demonstrated record of leadership and service to their academic institution and the larger community

Assistant: $154,395 - $164,688; Associate: $156,525 - $166,960; Professor: $184,656 - $196,966 - commensurate with education and experience
