Pay Range: In accordance with the City of East Chicago’s Salary Ordinance passed by the Common Council

POSITION SUMMARY

Under administrative direction of the City of East Chicago Mayor and Chief of Staff; plans, directs, manages, and oversees the activities and operations of the City’s Department of Human Resources; performs related duties as required.

Department Heads, Managers, Supervisors, employees, attorneys, third-party administrators, benefit providers/carriers external public and private agencies, and the general public.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree with major course work related to the function of the department or its equivalent in related job experiences.

Two years of management experience with progressive levels of responsibility in a position with significant experience in Human Resources, or equivalent business / corporate experience.

REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS

Must possess a valid driver’s license upon hire and maintain it throughout the length of employment with The City of East Chicago. PHR or SPHR Certification preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.

Environment - Work is performed in a busy office setting.

Physical – Primary functions require sufficient ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for a prolonged period; to occasionally stoop, crawl, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, turn, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate with others to exchange information. Occasionally push/pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds; occasionally required to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Vocal – Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas using spoken words and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Vision – See in normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing: Hear in normal audio range with or without correction.
