Position Summary
The Curriculum Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing curriculum operations in the Office of Academic Affairs. The position will extensively use University curriculum management and student record systems to review, process, and manage: (a) undergraduate transfer course evaluations, (b) undergraduate transfer curriculum exceptions, and (c) approved courses and programs for the University catalog. The position will also support Academic Affairs quality assurance functions (e.g., policy-related undergraduate student petitions, assessment, accreditation) as well as academic-oriented shared governance and other workgroups as assigned.

Responsibilities

Transfer Course Evaluations (25%)

  • Conduct evaluations for all undergraduate transfer courses to assign general education credits as appropriate
  • Maintain the list of undergraduate transfer course substitutions for UMD courses
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure undergraduate transfer course evaluation procedures and related communications positively contribute to UMD’s reputation as a transfer-friendly institution (e.g., prepare general education transfer guides for selected transfer institutions)


Transfer Curriculum Exceptions (25%)

  • Analyze general education transfer curriculum for New Advanced Standing students and other current and prospective students as applicable, and process exceptions related to general education for matriculated students as appropriate
  • Collaborate with campus partners to effectively support procedures that facilitate undergraduate students’ progress toward degree while also maintaining UMD academic policies and standards

Academic Affairs Quality Assurance Support (25%)

  • Review undergraduate student petitions received in Academic Affairs and develop recommendations for AVC review and approval; process petitions as appropriate
  • Assist with campus co-curricular assessment activities (e.g., assessment procedures for UMD living- learning communities)
  • Review undergraduate articulation agreements drafted by academic departments and colleges to ensure general education program and major requirements are accurate
  • Support Academic Affairs functions to ensure compliance with academic policies and procedures

Catalog Courses and Programs (20%)

  • Provide curriculum management assistance to academic departments and collegiate units to ensure course and program details are complete and meet programming requirements in University curriculum management systems
  • Process approved proposals for new and revised courses and programs
  • Collaborate with UMD and System partners to perform work accurately, meet deadlines, and improve procedures and systems as applicable

Miscellaneous duties as assigned (5%)

  • Provide staff support for one or more shared governance committees and/or Academic Affairs-led workgroups
  • Maintain current knowledge of University systems, policies, and procedures related to the position
  • Other duties as assigned
