Transportation Engineer
Noblis is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer for our Surface Transportation Program.

Noblis has a team of 35+ professionals supporting multiple research, development, and deployment-focused programs for the USDOT. These programs focus on using emerging technologies – including Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), connected vehicle, automated vehicle, and other emerging mobility and smart community technologies – to transform how we travel – enhancing safety, improving mobility, and reducing transportation’s impact on the environment and climate. We are positioning to grow our Surface Transportation Team with other terrific team members.
This is an opportunity for someone with a background and experience in transportation to support the USDOT ITS programs. Noblis provides strategic, technical, and programmatic support to the USDOT ITS Joint Program Office (JPO) – planning and conducting research activities, coordinating technology deployment programs, and seeking disruptive innovation to transform the increasingly connected and automated world of surface transportation systems.

As a member of this dynamic team you will participate in the following activities:
- Analyzing the potential of emerging transportation system technologies and their implications including: connected and automated vehicles, electric vehicles, wireless communication technologies, data management systems and advanced sensors.
- Conducting analysis of user needs and requirements.
- Assessing state of the practice and state of the art, and identifying research gaps and needs.
- Writing research, economic analysis, and program evaluation white papers.
- Developing presentations, outreach, and training materials.
- Assisting USDOT program managers with technical and programmatic activities,
- Developing data analyses and visualizations.
- Developing statements of work and Government cost estimates.
- Occasional domestic and international travel (less than 10% a year).
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- BS in a related technical are/field such as: Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Operations Research, Public Policy, or a related field
- BS with 3 years experience, or a MS and 1 year experience, or Doctorate and 0 years of experience
- Strong analytical ability required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required
- Strong professional, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship
Candidate demonstrates the following:
- Helps write and edit a variety of technical documents and prepares and presents briefings
- Works independently to determine approach to and technical objectives of work assignments
- Helps ensure client objectives for quality, schedule, and budget are met or exceeded through direct and creative approaches
- Interacts with project team on significant technical and project matters
- Identifies and develops solutions to program problems
Preferred Qualifications:
An understanding of, and familiarity with, the following is a plus:
- Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
- Connected and/or automated vehicle technologies
- Benefit cost analysis for transportation projects
- Data analysis and visualization tools
- Use of ITS technologies and applications for reducing environmental impacts
- Policy issues, such as socio-economic issues, equity issues, and government policies, laws, regulations related to climate change
- Vehicle electrification and alternative fuels
- Planning, design, development, integration, and operations of Transportation Management Systems and Centers

Salary at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, and clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is provided within the posting and are based on full time status. Part time staff receive a prorated salary based on regularly scheduled hours. The estimated minimum and maximum displayed represents the broadest range for this position (inclusive of high geographic and high clearance requirements), and is just one component of Noblis’ total compensation package for employees.
