SUSTAINABILITY COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

Position Overview


The Sustainability Communications Director is responsible for developing and managing CRH global sustainability communications strategy for alignment with Corporate Affairs and internally with Regional, Divisions and OpCos. The communication strategy will include management of thought leadership opportunities externally to improve the corporate image and advise management and other employees on all aspects of sustainability communication. Deliver sustainability communication services and build relationships with key stakeholders, internal staff and business associates is necessary for success. Align and coordinate with public relations, sustainability reporting, businesses and talent acquisition for CRH sustainability positioning and building the brand of choice in the built environment. Leads external executive communications for the Chief Sustainability Officer and Global Sustainability leadership team.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


Communications and Content Creation


  • Directs and oversees the design and implementation of sustainability related messages to the target audience via blogs, articles, social media and other materials working with internal and external communication experts.
  • Provides strategic input on global communications and ensures consistency in messaging, branding and priories in partnership with Corporate affairs.
  • Provides governance and consultation to senior executives, in particular the CSO, by implementing and evolving communications tools, processes, templates and guidelines.
  • Serves as the champion for the implementation of the Sustainability Transformation Task Force communication recommendations to educate, engage and empower our employees.
  • Support OpCo amplification of community engagement actions in alignment with CRH purpose.
  • Oversees the selection of vendors, agencies and critical partnerships to ensure communications are purpose driving, led by a consistent narrative and clear principles and adopted to different stakeholders, markets and cultures.
  • Accountable for ensuring that CRH global sustainability communications channels meet evolving business needs globally and delivers a best-in class employee and partner experience, working in collaboration with colleagues across commercial, technology, data analytics and others.


Qualifications


Education/Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, journalism, public relations, marketing communications or related field. Master’s degree ideal with extensive leadership and business skills.
  • 10-plus years communications experience, preferably in large, complex organization(s) and demonstrable experience in the delivery of sustainability strategies, reporting complex projects, internal and external engagement.
  • Direct engagement with and support of the CSO and partner with C-suite communications professionals for alignment
  • Experience leading change, preferably in a large, legacy organization
  • Experience driving transformation through people process and technology
  • A collaborative mindset and experience implementing agile and innovation principles
  • Trusted advisor, change agent, collaborative consultant, and empathetic leader
  • Strategic objectives-driven planning, budgeting and prioritization
  • Strong written/oral communications and engaging presence when messaging, positioning, and driving change management
  • Executive communications strategy and execution, advising and supporting the CSO – building an employer brand and activating it through recruitment and community engagement


Work Requirements


  • Advanced skills in Office or similar software suite.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a hybrid work environment.
  • Travel expectations 25-30%. This would be related to site engagement, sustainability summit and conferences.
