Job Description

Description/Job Summary

I. POSITIONS REPORTING DIRECTLY TO THIS POSITION: None


II. POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Provide technical support to the production function of efficiently manufacturing consistent quality. Provide troubleshooting assistance to the production group in all production areas. Establish and maintain programs and systems to improve the quality consistency of our products. Develop and design new products as required.

III. QUALIFICATIONS:

1. B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering
2. Ability to communicate effectively through both verbal and written communication with all entities in the plant.
3. Process troubleshooting experience helpful.
4. Additional education in statistical methods or statistical process control techniques helpful.
5. Additional education in Polymer Science or Technology helpful.

V. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Tasks and Duties

  • Research, recommend, analyze and test resins to achieve planned physical properties and/or improve processing or costs.
  • Recommend formula changes and follow the material throughout all phases of the process and compiling the associated data.
  • Assist and train production personnel on process equipment.

4. Monitor quality and productivity of all aspects of the production process on a daily basis.
5. Propose modifications to equipment or procedural changes to remedy quality and productivity problems.
6. Prepare production instructions for experimental products.
7. Utilize technical skills to optimize the characteristics of experimental products.
8. Utilize statistical techniques to improve the quality consistency of our products and identify sources of process variability.
9. Utilize process knowledge and electrical/mechanical troubleshooting skills to identify processing equipment malfunctions which are creating productivity or quality
abnormalities.
10. Prepare and maintain raw materials and product specifications.
11. Use statistical techniques to modify quality control specifications based on process characteristics.
12. Provide technical service to customers and marketing function as required.
13. Any other duty assigned by management.

C. Physical and Visual Activity Required

Physical

1. Climbing, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and the like
using feet and legs and / or hands and arms.
2. Stooping, bending body downward and forward by bending spine
and waist. Example: changing paper in printer, copier machine.
3. Kneeling, bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
4. Crouching, bending the body downward and forward by bending
leg and spine.
5. Reaching, extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Example: giving signals, reaching for material or handle on item.
6. Standing, particularly for sustained periods of time. Example:
Q.C. Testing, on line inspections, etc.
7. Walking, moving out on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for
long distances.
8. Lifting, raising objects from a lower to higher position or moving
objects horizontally from position to position. Degree of lifting:
5-25 lbs.
9. Fingering, picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working
primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm as in
handling.
10. Grasping, applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.
11. Feeling, perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape,
temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of
fingertips.
12. Talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word,
via face to face or telephone.
13. Hearing, perceiving the nature of sounds with no less than a 40 db
loss @ 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction.
Ability to receive verbal communication and to make fine
discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on
machined parts.
14. Balancing, maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when
walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically
moving surfaces.
15. Crawling, moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
16. Pulling, using upper extremities to exert force in order to drag, haul
or tug objects in a sustained motion.
17. Pushing, using upper extremities to press against something with
steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

Visual

1. Machine operation, inspection, close assembly, clerical and
administrative duties. Example: preparing and analyzing data
entry, CRT exposure, extensive reading, visual inspection
involving small defects, small parts, using measurement devices or
fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
2. Mobile equipment operations, operate cars, trucks.
3. Position requires individual to differentiate colors, depth and
perception.

D. Work Environment Conditions

1. Inside environmental conditions protected from weather conditions
not necessarily temperature conditions.
2. Outside environmental conditions, no effective protection from
weather.
3. Inside and outside environments apply.
4. Subject to extreme cold, temperatures below 32 degrees for periods
of more than one hour.
5. Subject to extreme heat, temperatures above 100 degrees for
periods of more than one hour.
6. Subject to noise causing reason to shout in order to be heard above
the noise level.
7. Subject to hazards, such as moving machinery, electrical currents,
falling debris, exposure to chemicals, gases, high heat or
combustible materials.
8. Subject to unregulated atmospheric conditions caused by orders,
fumes, gases, poor ventilation and dusts.
9. Subject to oils and other cutting fluids via touch or air.


VI. Authority / Decision Making

Work within company policies and procedures. Has full authority to:

1. Authorize temporary changes in processing conditions, to keep the line running and / or improve the quality.
2. Recommend changes in standard operating procedures and conditions.
3. Develop and modify statistical parameters in statistical process control systems.
4. Recommend changes in QC test specifications and procedures with appropriate studies and documentation.
5. Authorize order setup or line shutdown.
