Works under general supervision to physically set up meeting and event spaces with tables, chairs, and any necessary equipment for meetings and special events on and off campus.

Work Schedule and hours
Monday – Friday 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
Occasional nights, weekends and holidays as needed

Description of Responsibilities and Duties
Work in this class involves providing institutional services support for State agencies and universities in the areas of building environmental services. Employees perform a variety of duties in the care and cleaning of dormitories, offices, highway rest areas or welcome centers, and other state buildings. Work is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments. Work is performed subject to close review and inspection, with problems and special assignments not covered by instructions referred to a supervisor. Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture, operating heavy cleaning equipment and delivering large quantities of housekeeping supplies. Work is routine and repetitive in nature and may require strenuous physical exertion. Duties may include performing housekeeping and floor maintenance tasks, grounds keeping, operating laundry services machines, and performing laundry-handling duties.

Minimum Qualifications
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special certification may be required for some of these positions.

Must have a current valid driver’s license and maintain a valid license.

Preferred Qualifications
At least six months of experience and knowledge of event set up procedures, institutional cleaning procedures and the ability to follow instructions, work with minimal supervision, and perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special certification may be required for some of these positions.
High School Diploma or GED.
Applicants with 2+ years of experience in a housekeeping or janitorial position will be given preference.
Valid NCDL required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the job duties. Some experience and knowledge of institutional cleaning procedures and the ability to follow instructions, work with minimal supervision, and perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be able to climb stairs many times during the workday and carrying items while climbing stairs can be a daily task/requirement.

Knowledge-Professional: Reads work schedules and diagrams of buildings to arrive at the assigned work area on a timely basis. Set meeting and event spaces to accommodate anticipated attendees, break down space upon completion of event. As needed, performs basic cleaning such as but not limited to sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, disinfecting, vacuuming, etc., to keep meeting and event areas in a clean and orderly condition.

Daily Building Assignments:
Provide general event set up services in University buildings as assigned and provide general housekeeping and cleaning services in University buildings as needed.
  • Sets meeting and event spaces with equipment and materials including tables, chairs, and any other necessary equipment
  • Transfer equipment to/from locations using a variety of motor vehicles
  • Removes and replaces furniture as needed
  • Stores equipment and materials properly and in the correct areas
  • Inspects all conference equipment for defects, cleanliness, or any maintenance that needs to be completed and reports to the supervisor
  • Ensure that area is clean before set up, provide any necessary trash bins and leave are clean after break down of the event
  • Verify that facilities (restrooms) are clean and in working order prior to the event
  • Assist with the daily cleaning of buildings as needed or assigned
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Maintain all BES equipment for safe operation. Report needed repairs to BES supervisor.
Completes Assignments with little or no supervision.

Wears proper personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, such as gloves, goggles, aprons, and safety footwear.
Ensures wet floor signs are out and visible when floor maintenance duties are being completed.
Reports any on-the-job injury to the BES supervisor immediately.
Recognize and follow dispenser directions for properly mixing cleaning chemicals. Mixes and uses cleaning chemicals, supplies, and operating equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s labels.
