Job Description

Position Overview

Position Summary:
With guidance from and in collaboration with the Unit Director, the Institutional Research Analyst aggregates, analyzes, interprets various student and academic data. Using database, spreadsheet, statistical, analytical, visualization, presentation, and various other software programs to complete tasks, the employee conducts analyses of institutional data pertaining to admissions, enrollment, financial aid, registration, course schedule, grade outcomes, degrees awarded, etc – as well as Human Resources & Faculty data, and financial data sets in support of institutional decision-making processes and external reporting requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Identify data needs and write queries to extract data from university’s database system, compile data, convert into lay-language, and combine in publishable documents
  • Coordinate and complete reports/surveys for internal use or for external agencies
  • Generates and maintains accurate & up to date institutional data related to admissions, enrollment, financial aid, registration, course schedule, grade outcomes, degrees awarded, and Human Resources in Institutional Research Office Portal
  • In collaboration with unit Director, assists with survey preparation and reporting processes related to the administrator evaluation process, and faculty teaching evaluations.
  • Cross-train with the director on preparation of program review and departmental effectiveness data sets, as well as other mission critical institutional analyses and reports (enrollment comparison reports, course schedule & student exception reports, publication surveys, IPEDS, NMHED Edears reporting, NMHED quarterly performance measures reporting, etc)
  • Creates training materials and documentation for reporting processes according to standards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified, or an equivalent amount of education and/or experience. Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in quantitative and qualitative analysis using various computer software packages is required (MS Access, Excel, Argos, SPSS, SAS, or comparable). Experience in higher education is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to analyze requests and communicate with users to clarify reporting needs; ability to translate & articulate printed specs and data requests into actionable and accurate query results; ability to extract, manipulate, modify, translate, or transform very large data sets to satisfy the specified requirements of an analysis or output
  • Basic knowledge of SQL or other programming languages
  • Broad knowledge of database and spreadsheet applications
  • Ability to extract and analyze statistical data, including evaluate/troubleshoot/cross-validate data for quality/consistency, and to design tables, charts, and other visual representations of the data to most effectively communicate value with campus constituents
  • General familiarity with survey administration best practices & procedures; ability to work with campus constituents in survey instrument design, administration, and survey reporting.

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:


  • Work is performed during normal work hours but may require evening and weekend hours to meet set deadlines
  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Insurance for Eastern New Mexico University is offered through the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority. High coverage and low coverage options are offered for medical and dental insurance so employees can choose the plan that’s right for them.

Retirement

Eastern New Mexico University participates with the New Mexico Educational Retirement Board (NMERB), Social Security, and Medicare.

The University also offers supplemental retirement plans. 403b plans are available through TIAA/CREF, AIG VALIC, and MetLife. 475b plans are offered through TIAA/CREF.



Paid Time Off

Full time exempt employees accrue 14.66 hours of annual leave and 14 hours of medical leave per month. Employees must work for the University for three months before they are eligible to use annual leave. Leave accruals will be pro-rated for part time employees. Temporary employees do not accrue leave.



Employee Educational Assistance Plan

Eastern New Mexico University offers a tuition waiver for regular employees and retirees. This program waives the tuition for one course (up to four credit hours) per semester. Employees' spouses may be eligible to use the tuition waiver during any semester that it is not being used by the employee.
