Location/Schedule:


We currently can hire for this position out of the following locations: Leawood, KS, Houston, TX and Lakewood, CO.


Primary purpose:

The essential responsibility of the role is to provide accounting and financial analysis for both Oil & Natural Gas trading and marketing activities. The Senior Accountant’s primary responsibility is to prepare journal entries, reconciliations, analyses, and support the trading and marketing business across a wide range of middle and back office functions.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepare journal entries accurately and timely for monthly accounting close.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare wire requests for commodity invoices monthly.
  • Load settlement uploads in ERP system (Oracle) and team with Treasury to verify payments.
  • Reconcile financial trades daily to FCM bank.
  • Create a Park-and-Loan tracking system; verify new PALs daily; reconcile imbalances daily with scheduling.
  • Reconcile inventory to pipeline statements monthly.
  • Prepare and load monthly Journal Entries for AR/AP accruals and mark-to-market.
  • Forecast net income and EBITDA from trading activity.
  • Prepare MD&A for monthly trading results.
  • Verify internal GL entries in Oracle and remediate where applicable.
  • Support Confirmations/Checkouts/Invoices.
  • Aid in maintaining the accuracy and functionality of the Energy Trade Risk Management (ETRM) system.
  • Support Commodity Risk Management activities including daily position exposure and daily P&L.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly and yearly gross margin analysis.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing data requests.
  • Interact with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the public.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.


Minimum
requirements:


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline.


Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience actively involved in a relevant and related role.
  • Understanding the accounting and reporting of transactions involving natural gas and crude oil pipeline transportation for FERC and GAAP.
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of accounting and financial principles.
  • Advanced understanding and demonstrated ability with computerized accounting systems, financial modeling, budgets, operating analysis, and management reporting.
  • Familiarity and experience with ERP or ETRM software is beneficial but not required.
  • Intermediate to advanced level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.


Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
