About Farncombe Day Centre
Farncombe Day Centre Limited, an independent charity, is seeking a Care Assistant for the Farncombe Day Centre. The Day Centre provides a comfortable, friendly and safe environment where people, mainly aged 50 years and over, in the Farncombe and Godalming area can meet and socialise.
The Farncombe Day Centre is run on a daily basis by the Manager, Assistant Manager, staff and volunteers. The Centre is open to users between 9am and 4pm and provides a range of services, including a two-course meal at lunchtime, snacks and drinks throughout the day and activities and entertainment in the mornings and afternoons. The Centre has its own minibus, with tail lift, to bring users, particularly the less mobile, to and from the Centre. It also has its own hairdressing salon and medical room, the latter is used mainly to provide chiropody. There is also and Assisted Bathing Service available.
The Centre is funded through a combination of self-generated income, donations and grants from Waverley Borough Council, Godalming Town Council and other grant-making bodies. Fundraising is also done locally and nationally.

The Care Assistant’s Role
The main aims of the role are to assist the Day Centre users to:
· Get about the Day Centre and access its facilities safely.
· Help users with higher needs to participate in Day Centre activities and with eating, toileting and hygiene matters whilst attending the Day Centre.
· Help organise and run morning & afternoon activities and entertainment sessions.
· Interact with users in a friendly and welcoming way and to report any problems users may be having to the Manager or Assistant.
· Act as Bathing Assistant when required (the Day Centre has a parker bath).
· Help users who need assistance with shopping locally.
· Be willing to assist on the servery or in the kitchen if requested to do so by the Manager or Assistant.
· Take part in minibus outings for users.
· Become involved in various fundraising activities.
· Perform ad hoc tasks to ensure the smooth running of the Day Centre, if requested by the Manager or Deputy Manager
The position reports to the Day Centre Manager or in her/his absence the Assistant. The role involves working in partnership with the Day Centre staff and volunteers.
Personal Qualities, Skills and Competencies
The successful applicant should have the following:
· Three years previous experience of working as a care assistant or similar.
· QCF Qualification preferred.
· Ability to work in a team environment
· An interest in older people, with the understanding, patience and dedication to meeting the needs of our users,
· Good communication skills
· Flexibility
Conditions of Employment
- The employment will be a permanent contract with a three-month probationary period. Following the probation period one month’s notice of termination will be required.
- Basic hours of work are 9 hours a week (Job Share) allocated as Tuesdays 13.00-15.00, Thursday, 13:00 to 15:00 and Friday 10am-3pm Additional hours may be required as agreed in advance with the Manager. Additional hours worked will be paid at the basic hourly rate.
- 20 days holiday (pro rata) per annum exclusive of Bank and Public Holidays and Christmas closure of the Centre.
- The post is subject to a DBS (formerly CRB) check and satisfactory references.
- It is anticipated the successful candidate will commence their duties as soon as possible.
