The Post
The Henley College is seeking a Performing Arts Technician to support Performing Arts by overseeing all technical requirements. (Sound, lighting, set construction, visual recordings).
Key Responsibilities
- To rig and operate lighting and sound systems for any Performing Arts performance (will include several evening and weekend performances) based on technical requirements given by staff and / or students. Where appropriate students may be used to operate these systems.
- upkeep of technical equipment
- providing assistance to students producing sound recordings
- visual recording of all performances, transferring these onto DVD, storing them on to hard drive, maintenance of a record of all recordings
- setting up, and de-rigging, of all performance spaces (including seating) prior to, and after, all performances. Ensuring that all spaces are ready to be used by teaching staff after the event.
- purchase of materials for, and construction of, any set required (especially for Enrichment performances)
- organisation of a student technical team for all Enrichment productions (sound, lighting, set)
- production of all sound recordings required for performances (including sourcing of sound effects)
General Responsibilities
- Comply with any rules and regulations which the College may from time to time issue, to ensure the efficient operation of its business and the welfare and interest of its employees and learners.
- Work flexibly and efficiently to maintain the highest professional standards and to promote and implement the policies of the College.
- To ensure adherence to all College policies and procedures including Safeguarding, Keeping Children Safe in Education and IT Policy and procedures.
- To work to the College quality standards and systems within the context of the College quality systems.
- To ensure continuous professional development (CPD) requirements as specified by the College and that may be identified during college processes, for example Developmental reviews.
- To undertake such other duties and responsibilities as are appropriate to this level of post.
Essential Criteria
- Experience of rigging and operating stage lighting
- Experience of set construction
- Experience of setting up and operation of PA systems and sound desk
Desirable Criteria
- Flexibility in terms of hours
- The ability to work as part of a team in a pressurised environment
- The ability to communicate effectively with students aged 16 – 19
The job will be for 3 days per week BUT as the workload is not evenly spread throughout the year, this will be variable. Any hours above this may be eligible to be claimed as TOIL. These extra hours must be approved by the appropriate line manager BEFORE they are worked. TOIL can only be taken during a period in which the absence of a technician will not have an impact on the work of the Performing Arts Department.
Terms of Employment
Tenure of post: Permanent, Part Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: TBC
Hours of work: 12 Hours per week over 2/3 days, Actual working hours TBC
Salary: Up to £20,106.00 per annum, pro rata to part time, term time only actual salary approximately £5,400.00 per annum
