Job Description
The Acute Medicine Department is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and driven Physician Associate (PA) to join their multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be expected to work alongside a team of 13 Acute Medicine PAs, doctors, advanced clinical care practitioners, nurses, and therapy team to provide excellent quality of care to patients admitted under acute medicine. The PA will rotate between the different areas of acute medicine as and when needed. These include the newly built Rainbow Unit (two assessment and monitored areas and a short stay ward), AEC in SDEC (outpatients), as well as attending to medical patients in the Emergency Department. The PA will also work on the A2 ward which has a cohort of patients admitted under acute medicine. The role of the PA is versatile and will largely include ward work as well as clerking and reviewing acutely unwell patients across all the areas of the department. There is a large scope for progression and the team are looking for an individual who is committed to progressing in this speciality with an aim to develop specialist skills.
- To perform the initial assessment and examination of the acute medical patient, initiate diagnostic process and interpret investigations and recommend initial treatment.
- To exercise a high degree of personal autonomy when assessing and planning care, for a caseload of acute medical patients with a range of presenting complaints.
- To develop extensive core knowledge and experience in the acute medical specialty acting as a resource to the clinical team and allied health professionals.
