A rare opportunity for a Paediatric Exercise Therapist/Physiologist (Band 5) has become available. The post holder will join the world class Paediatric Respiratory Department at the Royal Brompton Hospital. You will be part of the busy and friendly Respiratory Physiology and Physiotherapy teams.
This exciting role involves being part of a specialist team performing Cardio Pulmonary Exercise Tests (CPETs) on children. The service is responsible for a variety of clinical responsibilities, performing a wide range of respiratory investigations. The successful candidate will work in our physiology lab as well as in clinics and the paediatric ward and will help in implementing treatment and exercise programs for the children in our care. In addition to CPETs you will perform other physiological tests such as spirometry and exhaled nitric oxide measurements. Ideally the candidate will have prior training and experience in these investigations, however comprehensive training will be provided.
Main duties and responsibilities are listed in the job description but include:
1. To undertake physiological tests including CPETs, spirometry, exhaled nitric oxide measurements, obtaining accurate results.
2. To explain tests clearly to children and their families
3. To implement treatment and exercise programs
4. To perform complex aspects of assessment and patient care in the hospital (or very occasionally within the community) such as taking cough swabs or sputum specimens, daily supervised patient exercise, rehabilitation sessions.
This is a joint post between the physiology and physiotherapy teams. In addition the successful candidate will work as part of the wider multidisciplinary team including nurses, doctors, play specialists, admin staff and health care assistants.

- To work as an integral and active part of the Paediatric Physiotherapy, Paediatric Physiology and multi-disciplinary teams. They will be responsible for supporting these teams in the provision of a patient-centred service, in an efficient and cost-effective way
- To be part of a specialist team performing physiological measurements on childre
- To be able to perform with appropriate training & supervision the physiological tests listed under main responsibilities, obtaining accurate and informative result
- To carry out clinical tasks (such as supervision of daily individual exercise programmes, rehabilitation and exercise testing sessions), delegated by qualified staff, requiring a wide range of technical ability, as well as an excellent level of interpersonal skill
- To carry out subjective and objective exercise assessments for patients face to face and virtually and feedback these assessments at multi-disciplinary meetings. This will include close liaison with the multi-disciplinary team re patient status
- To carry out clinical assessments independently such as oxygen saturation/heart rate/respiratory rate recordings, with interpretation of these for safely exercising patients.
