Overview

Are you a Newly Qualified Social Worker with a passion for Adults Social Work who is looking for a protected and supportive environment to start your career?

We have a fantastic opportunity for two Newly Qualified Social Workers to join our Hospital Discharge North and East Team based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and be part of a bespoke development programme whilst you complete your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE).

Here is what one of amazing ASYE's from a previous cohort has to say: https://youtu.be/Ab9Vfzrt2jU

About us

Come and join us and we’ll provide a framework of support to ensure your individual needs are met. Working full time, you will partake in an extensive training programme specifically selected to develop your skills, competencies and confidence.

Throughout your journey, you will be supported by experienced managers and senior practitioners to manage a carefully selected caseload; to enable you to apply your learning and manage your progress in the areas of practice and development identified for you. During the ASYE period you will spend a proportion of their time on practice development while working on a protected caseload and receiving high quality supervision, support and case management.

Here’s what one of our amazing ASYE’s from a previous cohort had to say:

The recruitment process was really smooth and straight-forward – there was excellent communication between me, HR and my manager from application all the way to joining the team. My ASYE assessor and my Team Manager work together to support me with my job role and with my reviews and the team I’m in is great, as there are people who have 18+ years of knowledge there to call on when I need advice.

About the role

As a NQSW you will develop the knowledge and skills within a learning, nurturing environment, resulting in the development of you as a confident, caring social worker with a robust value base.

Our programme will provide structure and support to ensure your individual needs are met. You will have a carefully selected caseload overseen by a Practice Supervisor. This level of oversight and assistance will develop social workers for Buckinghamshire who can demonstrate excellence in practice.

Mobile:

A ‘mobile’ role gives you the flexibility to schedule your own diary, so you can meet with colleagues and clients in a variety of locations. You’ll access digital folders and resources on your laptop and be able to use the network wherever you are based. Working from home will be common, as well as meeting your team in the office where necessary.

About you

We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic candidate who has recently graduated and is keen to start their career at Buckinghamshire Council in the most positive way and stay with us to make a real difference to practice.

Naturally, you’ll be eager to grow and develop your skills. Additionally, you’ll be:

  • Social work degree qualified and have your SWE registration
  • Passionate about social work and having a genuine impact on the lives of residents in Buckinghamshire
  • Committed to continually developing your social work practice
  • Up to date with current legislation
  • Able to demonstrate our core values of being proud, ambitious, collaborative and trustworthy

Please note it is essential for this post that the successful candidate has a full UK driving licence and their own transport.

Other information

For more information about the role, please contact Jo Towner (Team Manager) at Jo.Towner@buckinghamshire.gov.uk

You will be required to apply for a DBS at an enhanced level. Further information about the DBS Scheme can be found at GOV.UK

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare:

  • All unspent convictions and conditional cautions
  • All spent convictions and adult cautions that are not protected (i.e. that are not filtered out) as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020).

For further information on filtering please refer to Nacro guidance and the guidance published by the Ministry of Justice (see, in particular, the section titled ‘Exceptions Order’).

We reserve the right to close the vacancy once we have received sufficient applications, so please be advised to submit your application as early as possible.

Buckinghamshire Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk.

Our values

We have a set of values, which our employees have chosen, that represent what we are – Proud, Ambitious, Collaborative and Trustworthy.

By joining us, you can expect:

  • a fair and inclusive culture
  • the chance to really make a difference to those around you
  • health and well-being initiatives including an Employee Assistance Programme, Mental Health First Aiders and mindfulness workshops
  • a unified voice through our Employee Representative Group
  • ongoing support, and the opportunity to develop and progress in your career with us
  • opportunities to take part in fun activities such as fundraising and social events
  • We know that our biggest strength comes from the people that work for us, and that’s why we’re working hard to ensure we continue to be an accessible and inclusive organisation.

From dedicated staff networks overseen by our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Group, to proudly standing as a Disability Confident employer, it’s important to us that all our colleagues feel engaged, listened to, and valued. Our offer of flexible working empowers a productive and happy workforce and allows employees to combine work with other responsibilities and commitments.

We believe our workforce should reflect the diverse communities we service in Buckinghamshire, and are looking for like-minded individuals to join us in promoting equality, fairness, and inclusion for everyone.

Buckinghamshire Council is committed to ensuring that our residents stay as independent as they can, for as long as possible. Everyone has the right to live a fulfilling and nourishing life, and for many people, social care plays a key role in achieving that.

About the Business Unit

We are looking for dynamic Social Workers who are passionate about enabling clients to fulfil their potential, whilst promoting self-determination, and who are passionate, supportive, motivated, and confident when supporting and communicating with people - either on the telephone or face to face.
Your work will include carrying out needs assessments, creating person-centred and strengths-based care plans, ensuring delivery of services, and reviewing outcomes with the individual, their personal networks, and support providers.
You will work in partnership with other professionals and organisations to support our residents effectively and holistically. Our Social Workers will endorse and act by the principles of personalisation, ensuring that care and support plans are person-centred, and as far as is safely possible, you will put the people with whom you work in control of their lives.
You will also demonstrate emotional resilience and intelligence - which is the ability to maintain focus and to ‘keep going’ despite setbacks and stressful situations, a real desire to enable clients to achieve or maintain their goals of living independently and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
So, if you are looking for a new challenge, want to become part of a team that places a premium on listening and learning, and which is determined to make a difference – we want to hear from you!

We recognise and reward you

In these challenging times, we must remain connected as a team. From day one, you’ll be offered a ‘buddy’ who will be a friendly face to support you through your induction and new working world. The wellbeing of our colleagues is very important to us and we encourage you to take control of your work-life balance and adopt a flexible approach where possible.

We actively encourage a good work-life balance and promote flexible and agile working arrangements.

Benefits of working for Buckinghamshire:

Competitive salary inclusive of Market Factor

  • ‘Golden Hello’ lump-sum payment of £1000 paid on successful completion of your probationary period
  • Up to 25 days’ annual leave (plus bank holidays) rising to 30 days (plus bank holidays) after more than 5 years’ service
  • An attractive Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
