Health, Safety and Environment Advisor

We are a growth business and as we grow, recruiting the right people is essential and we currently have an opportunity for a Health, Safety and Environment Advisor to join the existing HSE Team.
- Location: Southern UK - travel required

As part of the growing CBS Health, Safety and Environment team, your work will be incredibly varied and your expertise will be in high demand. The HSE Advisor will provide competent advice and guidance to CBS staff on Health, Safety and Environmental issues in compliance with legislation and standards. They will also work closely with not only the HSE team but also other business functions including Sales, Engineering, Design, Procurement, Construction and Operations and Maintenance on a range of technologies including but not be limited to Combined Heat and Power, Solar and heat pumps.
You will be required to represent the CBS business to clients and other stake holders and undertake audits and inspections of CBS activities in the operation and maintenance, construction and manufacturing arenas. You will also be required to prepare, review and amend HSE documentation, deliver HSE training, undertake and/or assist with event investigation and to undertake root cause analysis to identify action to prevent recurrence.
The right person will be someone with a passion for HSE that will challenge and drive continuous improvement.
The Role
- As point of contact for Health, Safety, Environment for business activities, support for CBS Head Office, Windsor and projects in the southern region and other locations as required.
- Communicate with all employees as required to ensure the application of the H, S and E management system.
- Undertake audits and inspections of work activities and to ensure compliance with the HSE management system and legislation.
- Lead, assist and provide guidance on H, S and E investigations to ensure root causation is identified and actions are undertaken to prevent recurrence, monitor actions raised through to completion.
- Monitor, review & analyse H, S and E statistics.
- Assist in the justification for resource allocation as required to ensure adequate management of HSE risk.
- Assist construction/projects and O&M teams to ensure that the work is undertaken in compliance with HSE legislation and business processes through the provision of guidance, audits, inspections and through the setting of relevant actions.
The Person
Key competencies required to carry out the role competently and effectively:
- Thorough knowledge of HSE legislation, standards and best practice.
- Thorough knowledge and experience of CDM (Construction, Design & Management) requirements for design, construction and O&M activities.
- Experience of hazards, risks and controls when working withing a construction site and O&M environment.
- Experience of working in a mechanical/electrical environment and have an understanding of the potential risks/hazards.
- Excellent communication skills, written (including report writing) & verbal.
- Commercial awareness and application of the term ‘reasonably practicable’.
- Strong interpersonal skills including influencing and negotiation to ensure effective relationship management.
- Ability to identify key information and key trends from H, S and E data.
- Good level of IT literacy required and high level of initiative required.
- Knowledge and understanding of H, S and E and quality management systems.
- Appreciation of the implications various H,S and E initiatives will have on sites.
- Experience of operating in a multi-site environment.
- Experience and understanding of working construction sites and operation and maintenance activities.
Qualifications/membership:
- Grad IOSH/(Certified Member).
- NEBOSH Diploma in Occupation Safety & Health/NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health & Safety or equivalent or other Level 6, 7 OSH qualification.
- Certificate in Environmental Management, Environmental Awareness favourable but not essential.
