Job summary

Are you an internationally educated nurse currently residing in the UK and wanting to complete your NMC registration and join the register?

If you live in the West Midlands then University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) are well placed to support you through your final test of competence and completion of your OSCE.

We are looking for internationally educated nurses who; are enthusiastic, motivated, meet the Trusts English Language requirements and provide evidence that they have successfully completed the NMC CBT, part 1 of the test of competence .

You will have applied to either the adult or child branch of the NMC register and be at the stage in your application where you only require completion of your OSCE

For applicants seeking to diversify their career we will support your post NMC registration development supporting your professional development through our School of Nursing , AHP's & Midwifery.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

You must :

  • Be resident in the UK
  • Demonstrate that you meet the health and character requirements set by the NMC
  • Have evidence of English Language competence, UHB will only accept:
  • In date OET / ILETs, valid for at least 6 months
  • Combined OET / IELTs test scores, as per NMC guidelines
  • Proof of successfully completing an NMC approved pre-registration course (i.e Nurse Associate course)
  • Have evidence of passing NMC Computer Based Test
  • Be able to meet the training requirements of the OSCE programme which is full time, 37.5 hours per week Mon to Fri for 6 consecutive weeks
  • Have minimum of 6 months post registration experience working in acute hospital setting in your own country, ideally in the last 18 months.

Our offer :

  • Employment as a Band 4 pre-registration nurse moving to a Band 5 RN once you gain your NMC registration
  • Recognise your international experience when setting your salary
  • From the first day of employment a 6 week full time ( 37.5 ) hour per week OSCE preparation course at our international education centre based in Edgbaston Birmingham
  • 2 paid attempts at OSCE including expenses (subsequent attempts will be self-funded)
  • A period of clinical induction during transition from OSCE preparation into your clinical practice setting whilst awaiting your NMC registration
  • Support from International Nurse Educators and Clinical Educators to adapt and induct you into your new practice setting
  • Enrolment on the Trust preceptorship programme.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC Register

Evidence and ability to re validate as required by the NMC

Experience

Essential

Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary NHS care setting (can include student placements within the last 12 months)

Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence

Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision to others

Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets

Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment

Understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct

Understanding of preceptorship and work based learning and assimilation of skills and knowledge

Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context

Understanding / experience of the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity

Awareness of health and safety issues

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
