ABOUT THE JOB

The SEND and Inclusion Advisory Teacher will report to the Principal SEND Officer and will support mainstream and specialist settings 0-25 to meet the requirements of current legislation including the Children and Families Act 2014 for the provision of support for children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

This role will involve work with schools to monitor and quality assure special education provision and programmes of intervention with the aim of ensuring maximum curricular access and progression for pupils with special educational needs. The post holder will apply confident knowledge of effective approaches to teaching and learning for children with a wide range of special educational needs,

This role will also work proactively with school leaders and school staff to promote the achievement of children and young people with SEND and to do this in a way which fosters partnership working and successful transition between settings.

The post holder will use a range of soft and hard data to quality assure the SEN inclusive provision in schools and work collaboratively with school partners, LA officers and partners to drive improvement and ensure better outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for candidates with specialist knowledge and understanding of the relevant issues (including national and local initiatives) affecting Newham children’s and the wider SEND context; in addition to an extensive knowledge and understanding of the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND reforms 2015.

You will have a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), an advanced diploma, MA or other equivalent advanced in SEN or a specialist area.

You will be able to demonstrate having solid experience of teaching children with special educational needs in inclusive settings/schools and the ability to demonstrate effective teaching methods and specialist approaches involved in working with pupils with autism spectrum disorder.

Having excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to negotiate, persuade, build and maintain effective working relationships at all level is ideal as well as having e xperience of supporting partnership working is ideal as well as having good ICT skills - both standard Microsoft applications and good awareness of the use of ICT across the curriculum.

About Us
The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
Newham has a large housing regeneration programme that will build over 1,000 new council homes by 2022.
