About Us

Steffan Vets have been established for over 50 years based in a high street location in the historical and diverse town of Lampeter, West Wales. Situated in a valley bordering the Cambrian Mountains Lampeter has a bustling community feel and benefits anyone who enjoys the outdoors with the Ceredigion coast just 20 mins drive away. Our farm work consists of servicing over 200 farms; beef, sheep and dairy farms and many with a keen interest in herd health and management. The sheep work keeps us busy during the spring between the larger farms and the small holders, the latter of which also offer an interesting mix of goats, camelids, and poultry. The equine caseload is currently to 1st opinion GP level work but rewarding and varied with definite potential for growth (if equine tickles your fancy). The clients are mainly pleasure horse owners, trekkers and small liveries which brings opportunities to develop enthusiasm and knowledge.

Our town practice boasts all the things you could expect from a bustling vet practice and our theatre, prep room and inpatient facilities have recently been refurbished. A recent edition of a PTS room leads us to 4 consulting rooms, a large reception area and pharmacy. We have separate dog and cat kennels and an isolation facility for infectious cases. In addition to the standard small and farm animal laboratory, imaging, and anaesthetic monitoring equipment we have a FecPak machine, digital microscope, small animal dental X-rays, SignalPet and bull and ram breeding assessments.

About the Team and Culture

With a team of over 24 staff the practice is always adapting and expanding to meet the changes in demand and the industry. Each individual plays and integral part in the success of the practice with the clinical team being supported by experienced and progressive thinking administrative staff and Animal Care Assistants. Amongst our clinicians we have 9 Vets, 6 RVNs and 2 SVNs who are proud to each offer their own expertise and interests and amongst our mix of recent and experienced clinical staff there are 3 certificate holders (2 RVNS and 1 small animal vet) as well as an RVN with recognised behavioural qualifications, a farm vet technician about to embark on her TB testing journey as well as those on their VetGDP pathway.

We are a Veterinary Nurse training practice, and our newly graduated vets are supported through the IVC Graduate Academy programme as well as inhouse. We would be looking to support the right person to explore their own interests and help build experience/confidence in any relevant areas. A candidate with mixed practice experience would be looked upon favourably although a biased would be easily considered.

Our culture is centred around clinical standards and team enrichment with a particular passion for individual growth and development. We have worked hard to make at making working days sustainable and enjoyable, providing us with the time we need as clinicians to think, reflect, and communicate. The successful candidate would be someone to work to meet mutual goals, help drive and plan for the practices future as well as looking to progress and hone their own interests. They would need to show compassion and humour and be able to take the time to care, for themselves as well as others.

Applicant Requirements

What is most important in filling this role is the person, their aspirations and how we believe working relationships would be formed within the practice, so we are open to flexible working ideas and suggestions. The salary is based on experience and the ideal candidate would be able to work sole charge on-call, either small animal, or farm and equine.
