This role has a starting salary of £29,591 per annum, based on a 28.8 hour working week (full time equivalent £36,989 per annum).

This role is a secondment / fixed term contract until March 2025.

Are you interested in being involved in a new exciting project designed to prevent children and young people from entering the criminal justice system? Are you interested in collaborating with a variety of educational settings, the larger community, and families in Surrey to assist children and young people with their needs and improve their outcomes and life chances? If so, this is the job role for you!

The Building Belonging Programme (BBP) is looking for a new Programme Co-Ordinator. Our team sits in the Family Resilience & Safeguarding Team in the Children, Family and Lifelong Learning Directorate. It is an innovative programme that supports children with complex needs and their families targeting those in early years through to transition to adulthood. It is funded by NHS England as part of their national Vanguard programme to prevent entry into the criminal justice system and initially, the pilot will be implemented in Elmbridge over the next two years.

This is a very exciting opportunity that enables children’s services, health, police, the third sector and those with lived experience to work collaboratively and innovatively with children, young people, and their families to ensure their needs are supported to improve their outcomes and life chances. The ideal candidate will be expected to attend meetings throughout Surrey as needed. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for liaising with educational settings, other agencies, the wider community, and families.

Your experience and knowledge of the education sector will be vital to supporting the Building Belonging Programme team and practitioners more widely. This will enable you to support children, young people and families with complex needs who are at risk of entering the criminal justice system. Your contribution to the co-ordination and planning of the priorities for the overall development and implementation of the programme alongside the BBP Co-ordinators for health and social care will be very valuable to keep a focus on the outcomes within the NHS Framework for Integrated Care.

You will be collaboratively supporting the structure and functioning of the BBP team to ensure proper governance and risk management structures are in place and timely escalations are made to the Programme Manager where there is cause for concern and no identifiable mitigation. It is essential you develop and maintain positive relationships across schools, wider education teams and a wide range of partners. This will enable everyone to take a collaborative approach.

You will be required to support practitioners within BBP and team to build up their own learning and skills, gain confidence in accessing and delivering shared learning to colleagues and support to families. It is critical that you are a highly effective communicator, and work in a solution-focused manner to manage challenges that will arise. Your contribution will be very valuable and will play a key focus in the creation of a professional, friendly, supportive and collegiate environment where risks and issues are discussed and shared across the team, creating a sense of whole team accountability.

You will be an approachable and collaborative team player who strives to get the best out of others and who thrives on working in partnership. The ideal candidate will:

  • Have previous experience in education welfare, alternative provision and schools.
  • Have knowledge of the legislative framework around exclusion, attendance, additional needs and inclusion.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with effective negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Must be able to communicate with compassion and authority in challenging situations and with resistant individuals.
  • Champion innovation and change, and value Surrey's ambition to improve children's service integration
  • Must be willing and able to travel around the county to meet the demands of the role.
  • Must pass satisfactory DBS clearance to be considered for the position.
