Permanent contract | £16,454.5 to £18,630.5 per annum (Scale I/J) | 18.5 hours per week | Park View Resource Centre, King’s Lynn

Level 1: £18,630.50 to £17,361.50 per annum (Scale I)

Level 2: £17,705.50 to £18,630.50 per annum (Scale J)

We offer a £2000 welcome payment for qualified and experienced Social Workers/Occupational Therapists (grade J and above), Practice Consultants and Team Managers new to Norfolk County Council.

For experienced Social Workers new to Norfolk County Council we promise to try and match or better your existing salary, providing its in the spectrum of the grade advertised.

You will have good listening skills, be flexible and adaptable to new ways of working and be committed to supporting people to maintain their independence.

You will need to be open to change, innovative and confident with a focus on strengthening social care within Learning Disabilities across Norfolk. You will build strong partnerships with service users and their families, be ambitious about what people can achieve and explore ideas for positive outcomes. We work closely with commissioners to develop new services to meet the needs of the people we work with and ensure that existing provision is fit for purpose and best value for money.

Who are we?

The Learning Disability social care team is a specialist social care team which is integrated with colleagues from the specialist learning disability health service. We all work and support each other to better the lives of people with a learning disability over 18 years old.

The social work teams play a vital role in changing and challenging the outcomes for a people with a learning disability in Norfolk. We use legislation to ensure that people’s rights are upheld, and that they are supported to keep safe in their communities whilst achieving the outcomes that are important to them.

We are a Norfolk-wide service, and team members work from the various locality bases. We support each other to ensure the rights of people with a learning disability are upheld and to ensure adults with a learning disability in Norfolk have the same access to housing, work, education, and community as all other residents of Norfolk. We have big ambitions to support people to hold their own tenancies, and to receive paid employment.

Working alongside commissioning colleagues, we are re-imagining our support offer to people to ensure that our provision meets the needs of those with a learning disability in our community and that the ambitions and aspirations of those we support can be achieved.

King’s Lynn, the largest town in this locality, is a large market town and historic seaport 44 miles west of Norwich with direct rail links to Cambridge in 55 minutes and to London in less than 2 hours. West Norfolk is home to huge beaches from Heacham and Old Hunstanton to Brancaster, loved by kite-surfers. West Norfolk also has two larger market towns, Downham Market and Swaffham.


Charlotte Cresswell, Team Manager from West Norfolk said: “We are a friendly and welcoming locality with 5 separate teams covering the local acute hospital and the 4 areas of West Norfolk. We have a close and supportive management team who take pride in offering the teams a supportive environment to work in. We provide thorough and robust inductions for new starters followed up with regular supervisions including caseload management and reflective practice discussions. We also have regular team reflective practice sessions, team meetings and regular peer group sessions. We offer flexible working arrangements and hybrid working. The teams have constant open contact with each other via Teams chats as well as via virtual coffee breaks/wellbeing sessions. There are excellent training opportunities on offer to aid continuous professional development and this is something which is very much encouraged.
