Reporter (maternity cover) – The Payments Association

Salary: £25k-£30k (depending on experience)


Required: August 2023

Location: Hybrid

Term: Fixed-term contract (9 months, with the potential to extend by 3 months on a 1 month rolling basis)


The Payments Association is seeking a highly motivated and creative reporter to lead the valuable and exclusive content created for its member and industry publications – Payments Intelligence and Payments Review.


The reporter will play a key role in creating the association’s content, predominately as written articles and podcasts, as well as occasional videos.


Working closely with the Editorial Director and the Editor, the reporter will work to elevate Payments Intelligence and Payments Review to ensure it offers the best content for members and establishes The Payments Association as the voice of the industry.

About the role

We are seeking a reporter to join our passionate Editorial department in this fast-growing business in the payments industry based at London Bridge, London.


The Reporter will be responsible for creating articles across our two publications, as well as be involved in creating multimedia content and supporting the wider business to deliver valuable benefits to members.


Payments Intelligenc
e delivers short, sharp, actionable insights exclusively for The Payments Association’s members. The monthly newsletter contains content that helps members, especially C-suite executives and product managers, to effectively navigate the market, identify trends and help them make effective business decisions.


Payments Review
is a leading source of analysis and insight on payment trends. The quarterly digital magazine brings together a range of views and voices to deliver a 360 perspective on the issues that matter.


Reporting to the Editor, the reporter will be responsible for creating regular actionable articles and podcasts for Payments Intelligence, as well as features and cover stories for Payments Review, ensuring the content included in Payments Intelligence and Payments Review meets the brief of both the respective publications and is published on time and to a high quality.


The role requires in-market research, leading monthly roundtables to create articles, as well as keeping track of industry developments and trends through companies, technologies, regulations and products/services. The reporter is then required to use this understanding to provide the highest quality of creative insightful and analytical content.


Key responsibilities


  • Lead virtual and in-person roundtables to create market-leading thought leadership content, which results in a minimum of 1 member-exclusive actionable article for Payments Intelligence and 1 feature or cover story for Payments Review.
  • Produce regular articles, podcasts, videos as assigned for Payments Intelligence and Payments Review.
  • Work with the Editor to develop the themes for both publications.
  • Produce regular social media posts to grow awareness and engagement of all TPA content.
  • Support members on using their content benefits by producing thought leadership interviews in written, audio and visual formats.
  • Work collaboratively with all departments to ensure we create member value and grow our industry voice through our exclusive reporting.
  • Support Policy and Project teams to produce compelling content.
  • Attend events and undertake event reporting the helps our members.
  • Undertake research and use data journalism skills to create quarterly exclusive pieces.
  • Comply with media law and ethical reporting guidelines.
  • Opportunity to grow editing and proofreading skills by supporting the Editor.


Skills, Experience & Personal Attributes

Essential

  • Exceptional research and writing abilities, with impeccable attention to detail.
  • Excellent communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Proven working experience as a B2B reporter.
  • NQTJ or equivalent qualification in journalism.

  • An excellent portfolio of writing, video and audio content.
  • Excellent written and spoken skills in English.
  • Hands-on experience with MS Office, WordPress and other publishing tools.
  • Proven familiarity with SEO and social media best practices.
  • An eye for detail, along with critical thinking.
  • Prioritising and multitasking skills.
  • Outstanding time management & organisational skills.
  • An interest in policy, finance, fintech and payments.

Desirable


  • Data journalism skills.
  • The ability to write well-researched thought leadership articles and reports.
  • Editing and proofreading experience.
  • Experience with HubSpot (training given if not).
