UHB are seeking enthusiastic Paediatric Nurses, Adult Nurses & Midwives to join their busy Neonatal service, we have 32 cots in a Level 3 unit at Heartlands and 12 cots in a Level 1 unit at Good Hope, offering a 24 hour, 7 day week service.
Successful applicants will join our Neonatal development programme by starting their career journey within Special Care, after completing their Neonatal foundation course and becoming confident practitioners the post holder will be allocated a place on the Introduction to Neonatal Critical Care course.
Working with babies that require High Dependency Care under the supervision and guidance of our specialist education team and highly skilled multidisciplinary team the Neonatal nurse will have the opportunity to grow professionally whilst developing advanced skills and knowledge. When the Neonatal nurse is able to demonstrate competence and confidence within the High Dependency environment they will be given the opportunity to apply for a place on the accredited Neonatal Intensive Care course which will open future career avenues for band 6 leadership roles.
This development post will suit you if you have a passion for providing care to infants and their families, you must be committed to fulfil the expectations of the role; timescales for progression will be dependent on experience.As a band 5 Neonatal Nurse at UHB you will work alongside our friendly, dynamic, talented team of professionals to deliver high quality, compassionate care to our local community and beyond. You will provide care for pre term and term infants who need medical or nursing care after birth, they may need short term or long term periods of admission before being deemed fit for discharge.
You will be required to deliver individualised, holistic care to infants and families from a diverse population; you must be skilled in communication so that you are able to fulfil this requirement effectively. You will be required to utilise your nursing skills to assess, monitor and prioritise care of the infant whilst working with the team to ensure care is delivered in an appropriate time scale.
You will need to identify and support families who may have safeguarding requirements and follow trust procedures to ensure appropriate professionals are involved. As an autonomous practitioner you will need to make decisions on patient care, record accurate information and adhere to your professional code at all times.

- Registered Child / Adult Nurse or Midwife on the NMC Register
- Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
- Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary NHS care setting (can include student placements within the last 12 months )
- Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence
- Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision to others
- Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
- Understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct
- Understanding of preceptorship and work based learning and assimilation of skills and knowledge
- Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context
- Understanding / experience of the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity
- Awareness of health and safety issues
- Knowledge of Neonatal and family integrated care
- Awareness and understanding of Baby Friendly Initiative and how to maintain these standards.
- Knowledge of West Midlands Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (WMODN)
Demonstrate achievement of numeracy (including drug administration calculations) and literacy skills. Ability to read / write and speak , receive and understand instructions in English- Good IT skills ability to record information electronically
- Competent in a range of clinical skills willingness to undertake expanded practices relevant to the scope of practice required
- Competent in managing the care of a group of patients / shift management and clinical leadership relevant to the practise setting
