About the Role

The Communications Manager, UK, will be responsible for enhancing and protecting the Lockheed Martin brand through an annual programme of activity that strengthens and grows the company’s UK footprint by supporting business capture and keep sold campaigns and creating an environment for a wider understanding of corporate strategy and goals.

A key focus of the role is to engage with senior correspondents of tier one national, specialist and broadcast media as well as social influencers and other stakeholders who shape and influence the opinions of decision makers.

There will be a need for frequent travel domestically with a potential need for occasional travel to other locations, on an ad-hoc basis, to support communications activity.
This is a hybrid working role that also offers the benefits of a flexible working week. The job holder will report directly to the director, international communications.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive external communications plan for the UK that enhances the reputation of Lockheed Martin through strengthening trusted relationships with tier one media, communications stakeholders in, the Ministry of Defence and armed forces, industry and academia as well as through marketing communications and brand profiling. This work will align with regional business priorities and the overall communications strategy for Lockheed Martin globally.
  • Drive the Lockheed Martin news agenda, at both a national and regional level in the UK
  • Partner with Lockheed Martin’s lines of business in the UK and U.S. to proactively sustain positive media relationships through a comprehensive programme of media briefings, visits, news releases, events and other relationship building activities.
  • Proactively position the Lockheed Martin UK chief executive as a thought leader specifically in areas relating to diversity and inclusion, sustainability, partnerships with industry and academia and support for military veterans.
  • Work with UK business area communicators to plan and execute community outreach and sponsorships in UK, ensuring alignment to corporate values and narrative.
  • With a focus on engagement, co-ordinate delivery of social and digital communications across the UK including upkeep of the UK web landing pages and the proactive generation of content for @LMUKNews and other channels, as appropriate.
  • Leverage value from events, exhibitions and conferences and develop positions of thought leadership from speeches and panel discussions at UK events involving Lockheed Martin personnel.
  • Educate and inform our employees by driving awareness of all relevant external communications activity.
  • Scale our 21st Century Security narrative to highlight Lockheed Martin technology and innovation and position the company as a global technology leader in aerospace, space and security.
  • Manage Lockheed Martin’s media contacts database in the UK, distribution of news releases and other collateral, daily media monitoring and monthly reporting to best effect.
  • Provide support to the director, international communications in other areas, as may be required.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • An experienced communications professional with proven media relations and digital communications skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure despite competing priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey highly complex information in clear, compelling ways
  • Experience of event management would be desirable
  • Eye for detail and a strong commitment to delivering a quality service
  • Motivated self starter who can flourish in a matrix organisation
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Security Clearance will be required for this position.
