Job Description

Main duties of the job

You will work within the multidisciplinary team to provide assessments and treatment plans to a variety of hepatology and Liver transplant patients.

  • Assessing patients for their suitability for transplant using a range of outcome measure
  • Providing education and exercises to help improve fitness
  • Engaging patients in goals setting and motivating them to improve fitness pre-operative
  • Reviewing patient’s post-op Liver Transplant
  • Working with the band 8a Physiotherapist to expand the service and undertake service evaluation projects

As a Liver Specialist Physiotherapist, you will become part of the faculty that provides training for our Liver transplant and hepatology ward. This includes the use of Simulation based learning, for which you will receive additional training.

The Liver transplant and hepatology team is part of the Critical Care, Medicine and Surgery (CMS) team, it prides itself on it’s warm and welcoming atmosphere. Uniquely at the Royal Free the service is fully integrated with the Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Dietitians. This enables us to work in a truly collaborative way and to learn from each other.

We pride ourselves on our holistic and supportive culture - we aim to help staff achieve their full potential whether this be academically, managerially, in the field of education and in their own personal wellbeing.

Our Consultant Physiotherapist is widely published and a Digital pioneer who can support staff to undertake research and publication. The Royal Free offers an excellent range of internal courses and training and will also support staff in further education. We currently have team members embarking on Masters programmes, ACP and prescribing courses. We have a growing AHP Education team who support us in finding suitable courses and facilitating applications.

Education & professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/graduate diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Health Professions Council (HPC) registration
  • Member of CSP
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of special interest group
  • Additional qualification eg MSc or accredited courses at postgraduate level in specialist clinical area
  • Commitment to advanced clinical and professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant postgraduate clinical experience as a Band 6 or above
  • Knowledge and experience of a wide range of approaches for the management of patients within specialist clinical area
  • Experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working
  • Previous experience of junior staff & student supervision/ clinical education
  • Experience of clinical audit and/or research
  • Lectures/ Presentations to groups/ teaching other Healthcare Professionals and patients
  • Student training/ supervisory skills
  • Undertaking research or audit
  • Active contribution to service improvement
  • Proficient IT knowledge
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working with Liver Transplant or hepatology patients
  • Experience of teaching to uni -disciplinary/ multidisciplinary groups
  • Experience of using SIM based training for staff development
  • Evidence of active involvement in service development & contribution to change within the workplace
  • Motivational Interviewing/ behaviour change training (CBT or facilitation skills)
