In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for the GS-08: One year of specialized experience that includes: 1) Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a fulltime police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills; and 2) experience in assisting with presenting/briefing training for police and/or security courses; and 3) assigned to unit for local or federal police and/or security type work assisting in the development of training/lesson plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Service (GS-07)
Specialized Experience for the GS-09: One year of specialized experience that includes: 1) Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a fulltime police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills; and 2) experience presenting/briefing training police and/or security courses; and 3) assigned to unit for local or federal police and/or security type work developing training/lesson plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Service (GS-08).
Experience being a certified instructor in areas of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or TASER is recommended.

Salary range for grades:
GS-08 - $58,593 to $76,176 per annum
GS-09 - $64,251 to $83,523 per annum
