Lincoln is the base for thedesign and manufacture of world class gas turbines for applications within theOil and Gas Industry and Industrial Power Generation (cogeneration).

Lincoln provides its customers with expertise coveringall aspects of industrial power plant technology including research anddevelopment; engineering; manufacturing; project management and lifetimeproduct support. Thebusiness continues to invest heavily in Research and Development in all areas,but particularly to improve efficiency, further reduce emissions and to widenthe range of fuels that can be used.
The Role -.
Thisrole will be based at our site in Lincoln within the Performance Group:
ThePerformance Group is responsible for –
- Prediction of installed engine performance,
- assessment of engineperformance during Production Pass Off Test, development testing, and testingon site,
- monitoring of thestatistics of production engine performance,
- prediction of theexpected performance from new engines and from developments of existingengines,
- development ofperformance assessment, prediction methods and software.
The group provides information and performance expertise to a widerange of areas within the business, including Sales, Manufacturing, Engineeringand Customer Support.
Youwill be working within the group on a range of projects within the above areas,initially focussed on the thermodynamics of the company’s products. Specialised training will be given whererequired.
Asa Performance engineer you will be involved in the assessment of EnginePerformance and validation of test results and prediction of Site installed performanceof the SGT products. Your role will see you become an integrated part of thePerformance team.
Yourrole will involve carrying out performance calculations,refining engine models, support to R&D validation tests, process automation,creation of software tools and support to Sales proposals and bids.
GasTurbine knowledge is not essential, as training courses will be provided, butan interest in the product or a specialisation in Programming, Thermodynamicswould be an advantage.
Themain responsibility of the role will be to take ownership of the PerformanceSoftware tools and work on the development and enhancement of these tools. Dueto the nature of the role C# / Python programming skills are a requirement.
Familiaritywith Microsoft office products particularly Excel and VBA programming are anadvantage.
Training & Development -
Thebusiness offers training as required with full accreditation from the two majorengineering institutions; and is in a position to provide a route toIncorporated or Chartered Engineering status.
Minimum EducationalRequirements –
Masterslevel or above Engineering (Mechanical / Aeronautical), Mathematical orSoftware related degrees with 2.1 classification or higher to be considered forcandidates with relevant personal characteristics.
Astrong background in Mathematics and Physics would be expected.
Skills:
Ahighly motivated person with a ‘can do’ attitude who is results orientated andhas a positive approach to work and their personal life.
Thisperson will need excellent interpersonal skills, will be confident incommunicating at all levels and will posses excellent presentation and leadershipskills.
Specific to PerformanceGroup work:
- Basic Office packages including Microsoft word, excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent levels of numeracy and literacy
- Ability to present him/herself well to all levels of people both internal and external to the business.
- Ability to work alone or in a team, sometimes under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Computer skills/experience with engineering software
- Experience in Visual Basic, FORTRAN or C sharp programming is preferential.
- Excellent investigative skills and a knowledge of statistical analysis is required.
- Previous experience of engine performance pass of proven experience of analysis of large data sets is required.
Technical:
- Understanding of gas turbine simple cycle (basic tointermediate level)
- Ability to carry out basic thermodynamic calculations.
- Some experience with prediction modelling techniques(doesn’t have to necessarily be performance modelling)
- Willingness to support testing activities (production anddevelopment) and an understanding of Performance testing process, standards, and instrumentation limitations
- Preferably C# / FORTRAN / MATLAB / VBA skills
General:
- An aptitude for basic programming skills (not necessarilywith any experience – just has the general aptitude)
- Strong organisational skills (including being self-motivatedwith ability to work through topics unassisted)
- Strong Data science skills
- Strong MS office skills
- Good report writing ability, including presentation skills.
- Experience either of running or being part of a project team.
- Problem solving skills (preferably with some training e.g., Kepner-Tregoe, Fault tree analysis,Ishikawa diagrams)
- Ability to communicate with a range of audiences (Customer,Management, local CDE) in a coherent succinct manner.
Experience
Wewill be looking for evidence of activities carried out during Graduateplacements / previous job rotations along with university vacations, we willlook for a demonstration of initiative. Previous experience in PerformanceEngineering is not essential as all candidates will be assed on merit.
Additional Information –
Thisrole is suited to a junior engineer candidate with strong software developmentskills, Performance engineering and general Gas turbines knowledge with a viewto developing specific knowledge of our products.
Theaim is for a good candidate to be of Engineer / Senior Engineer level and bevery useful in <6months. Graduates looking for long term career in the areawill also be considered.
