Job Description

Work Hours

This may change based on clinic’s needs

· Monday: Off

· Tuesday: 845 am – 515 pm

· Wednesday: 845 am – 515 pm

· Thursday: 845 am – 515 pm

· Friday: 845 am – 515 pm

· Saturday: 845 am – 515 pm

· Sunday: off

Qualifications

· Great interpersonal communications skills.

· Must be detail-oriented.

· A solid understanding of: OSHA safety; Infection Control practices.

· Must have a “can-do” attitude, show initiative and willingness to adapt to change.

· Must maintain a neat appearance.

· Will seek guidance, direction and assistance as needed.

· Must display effective verbal and written communication skills

· Physical ability to perform the duties of the position

· Ability to organize and prioritize workload, work independently and be self-motived.

· Willingness and ability to learn and execute new tasks, as necessary

· Must have knowledge of safety and sanitation practices.

· Must be familiar with and supportive of the clinic’s policies and procedures.

· Must be organized, since an important part of the position is to apply for prior authorizations.

Educational Requirements

· High School Diploma or GED (required)

· Graduation from a medical assistant training program (preferable)

· Have at least one year of experience working as a medical assistant (preferable)

Basic functions and responsibilities:

May include but are not limited to:

· Answering the phone

· Greeting patients as they enter the clinic and checking them in

· Providing appropriate paperwork for patients to fill out for their appointment

· Ordering medication for patient treatments

· Obtaining required prior authorizations and other necessary insurance- related tasks

· Ordering clinic supplies

· Preparing patients for their treatment (i.e. connecting to monitors, providing warm blankets, writing down vital signs)

· Assist with monitoring patients during treatment (i.e. obtaining regular vital signs, assisting patients to the restroom, providing something to drink and/or eat for patients)

· Restocking supplies

· Proper cleaning of equipment and rooms between patients and at the end of each day

· Assisting with tasks for which she/he has been trained. Must have knowledge of safety and sanitation practices. Must be familiar with and is supportive of the company policies and procedures.

· Other tasks as requested by the clinic director or physician for which she/he has been properly trained

Organization

· Verbalizes mission and goals of the clinic

· Verbalizes understanding of roles and responsibilities of:

· Medical Assistant Role

· Supervisor Role

· Participates in all assigned committee meetings and projects.

Team Work

· Possess ability to communicate and use effective interpersonal skills with colleagues and other members of the team

· Fosters a positive work environment/attitude and encourages team work.

· Possess strong time management skills

· Must be able to ensure a safe environment for patients/families/ staff, identifying health & safety risks & take appropriate and immediate steps to alleviate the risk

· Assist in the orientation of new personnel as assigned by supervisory staff

General Guidelines for all Clinical and Administrative Personnel

· Must familiarize self and adhere to, AAAASF Guidelines as well as internal policies for environment of care

· Participate in team functioning

· Lead by example

· Follow proper procedures for reporting injuries (e.g., fall, eye splash, needle stick)

Infection Control

· Must have knowledge of aseptic technique, to include the sterilization process, as well as, the cleaning and handling of instruments and supplies.

· Must refer to and implement all aspects of the Infection Control Policy

· Understands and can demonstrate Standard Precautions, use of personal protective equipment, proper hand hygiene, needle stick prevention, and blood borne pathogen exposure, per policy.

· Can demonstrate proper cleaning and decontamination of medical equipment and proper technique for managing blood spills using appropriate cleaning agents

· uses proper technique for:

(1) Handling linens

(2) Disposing of sharps, infectious, & regulated medical waste

(3) Storing clean and sterile supplies

Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of:

· Maintaining patient confidentiality and security

· Attends annual OSHA training, HIPAA training and all other required in-services.

· Attends and participates in all applicable meetings.

Equipment

· Is familiar with and can operate all equipment pertinent to job duties/ description

Typical Physical Demands:

Position requires: full range of body motion including handling and lifting heavy objects.

Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.

Position involves standing and walking.

Normal visual acuity and hearing are required.

Employee will be considered an “exposed” employee according to OSHA standards.

Safety and Emergency Preparedness

Describes safety plan and knows location of evacuation meeting place, describes staff roles as well as personal role; understands the HAZCOM program and use/location of SDS books. Is able to recognize and respond to potential emergent situations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
