Job summary

Here at Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC), we are inclusive and dedicated, working to provide excellent care to our entitled personnel.

We are looking for a friendly, well-organised and adaptable AO Medical Administrative Clerk to join our encouraging and welcoming team of dedicated military and civilian healthcare professionals and Administrative staff working within the Shawbury Medical Centre at RAF Shawbury.

The vacant post is a full-time position at 37 hours per week. Request to work flexibly and or part time will be considered taking into account business needs.

Job description

As the successful candidate, you will work to the Practice Manager/Civilian Medical Practitioner at RAF Shawbury Medical Centre. As part of a small team providing Primary Healthcare, you will have delegated responsibility for the efficient administration of RAF Shawbury Medical Centre.

The duties will include creating of daily clinics on (Defence Medical Information Capability Program (DMICP), booking patients in at reception, maintenance and administration of electronic medical records, typing, filing and patient liaison.

As a Medical Administrative Clerk, the post holder will have a major impact in promoting a positive image of the Medical Centre to patients and other users.

Person specification

Main duties of the role will include but are not limited to:

  • Provide general administrative support to the practice including faxing, photocopying, scanning, booking appointments and dealing with patients in an appropriate manner either face to face, by telephone or in writing.
  • Routine administration of referrals, including maintaining referrals register, sending referral letters, notifying patients of referral appointments, hastening of appointments and actively ensuring patients are kept informed of progress.
  • Administrator duties for medical IT system including creating accounts for locums and new staff, password resets etc. Routine housekeeping of IT systems including managing patient records when personnel are posted etc, Share-point.
  • Maintenance of patient registrations on medical IT system ensuring patient contact details are accurate. Update patient locations particularly when Service Personnel (SP) move within unit.
  • Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings including recording and distributing minutes.

If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
