On Lok is a not-for-profit organization founded in the early 1970s by a group of citizens concerned about the plight of elders and the lack of long term options in the community. On Lok serves as the administrative arm of a group of five affiliated non-profit organizations. Its functions include research and development, human resources, fundraising and management information systems.

The People team is searching for a new Generalist to join our strong human resource function and help us take On Lok's people services to the next level.


POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides human resources consultation, mentorship, and support to assigned work groups/teams and to the People Operations team members. Uses working knowledge of the organization to effectively support and guide supervisors with results-oriented actions. Actively contributes to the development of HR initiatives, programs, and projects. Prepares internal communication on HR-related matters. Analyzes trends and offers sound recommendations to resolve simple to complex issues that make positive impact towards the organization's goals. Acts as liaison with other HR functions.

Champions the organization's core values and strategic commitment to attract, retain, advance, and support a broadly diverse workforce of the highest level of excellence that thrives in an inclusive, equitable, and just workplace culture. Serves as the key point of contact for staff and supervisors across the organization, and a key catalyst in supporting On Lok's significant internal change processes.


DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs a variety of strategic, operational, and tactical People (HR) functions through building relationships within the assigned client groups as an innovative and trusted partner.
  • Ensures consistent implementation/execution of People programs and processes to effectively support the full employee lifecycle from recruitment through performance, employee development and departures. Identifies gaps and recommends ways to streamline and improve work productivity/efficiencies.
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams for the development and deployment of people strategies, programs, policies, and procedures. Contributes to the development and execution of the organizational change efforts and various People (Employee) Relations activities.
  • Develops relationships grounded in trust and authenticity. Helps build and maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and thriving culture that reflects On Lok's core values. Identifies root causes and recommends effective and holistic solutions. Works independently to meeting assigned objectives.
  • Partners closely with assigned client groups, both staff and management, to meet their objectives, proactively address and resolves problems in all areas of the People functions, including compensation, benefits, leaves and accommodation, performance management, workforce planning.
  • Partner with Management:
    • Consults with supervisors/leaders in establishing compelling business cases for organizational changes around workforce planning, employee movements, compensation, separations, etc. Supports and effectively executes various processes.
    • Guides supervisors/leaders on how to effectively manage employee performance; i.e., coaching, ongoing and timely feedback, career growth, progressive discipline activities and performance improvement plans).
    • Coaches supervisors/leaders on team dynamics to build and grow successful inclusive teams, identify and motivate high performers, and navigate difficult conversations. Provides guidance to ensure compliance with internal policies and practices as well as employment regulations.
  • Partner with People (HR) Department:
    • People Relations on providing guidance to staff on navigating challenging interpersonal dynamics, facilitate complaint resolution, including investigations.
    • Talent Acquisition and/or Compensation on recruiting strategies, workforce planning, equity, career progressions, etc.
    • Occupational Health to address/administer workers' compensation claims and related matters, health and safety, work accommodations, etc.
    • Learning & Development and Organization Culture & Inclusion on management training and employee retention strategies. This includes developing and facilitating workshops designed to support On Lok's culture.
  • Partner with Staff:
    • Handles employment-related inquiries and concerns, may refer complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff or subject-matter expert.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute people programs, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Performs duties as assigned with tact, discretion and in accordance with confidentiality requirements.
  • Supports and may lead special projects as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, skills, abilities):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or business related field
  • 4-7 years Human Resources-related experience with strong knowledge and background in employee relations, workers' compensation, leaves and accommodations, change management
  • An Effective Collaborator: Works proactively and cohesively in a dynamic, interdisciplinary team environment, and can successfully operate in complex situations. Able to gain trust from supervisors and staff and are known for supporting them to ensure they are set up for success.

  • Aware of Cultural Dynamics: Exhibits confidence around being culturally aware while helping address problematic actions and policies.
  • Communicator: Proficiency in English. Strong verbal, written and listening skills; able to diplomatically and tactfully interact with staff and supervisors at all levels; comfortable communicating in large and small group settings.
  • Computer Proficiency: Familiarity with HR Information Systems (HRIS) and payroll software. Experience using all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Other: Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Strong attention to detail, able to think outside of the box, results-oriented, active listener, problem solver. Proven ability to meet deadlines.

Your final compensation offer will be determined based on factors such as skills, experience, education, and licenses/certifications. The pay range is expressed as an hourly rate regardless of FLSA status. Exempt positions are paid salaried and are not subject to overtime.
