This position is located in the Office of Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Diplomatic Security, Department of State. You will be responsible for researching and analyzing legislative proposals affecting Bureau programs and advising the Assistant Secretary in developing strategies for maintaining effective relationships with members of Congressional staff.

Duties
Works in close association with the Assistant Secretary via the Chief of Staff in an advisory capacity to plan, analyze, and formulate strategies for working with Congress.
Establishes and maintains liaison with the Bureau of Legislative Affairs, members of Congress, and Congressional staff to promote an awareness and understanding of the Bureau 's missions, goals, and objectives.
Researches, reviews, and analyzes legislation and Congressional actions affecting the Bureau and other federal agencies on matters related to national and international security and law enforcement. Evaluates the potential impact on Bureau programs.
Develops and implements strategies to ensure responsible and consistent communication with members of Congress and Congressional staff. Prepares and coordinates the preparation of testimony, responses to congressional inquiries, and briefings.
Resolves a wide variety of issues related to Bureau testimony and briefings provided to Congress in order to optimize representation of Bureau interests and concerns. Reviews and analyzes Congressional hearing reports.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
