The Medical Assistant at GenesisCare is a specifically trained individual who demonstrates expertise in dealing with patients during all aspects of care. Performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the Physician(s) or Physician’s designee.
The Radiation Oncology Medical Assistant reports directly to the Center Leader in the absence of a Nurse Manager with a dotted line to the Director of Nursing. There are no direct reports to this position.
The Medical Assistant provides care to the patients under direct supervision at GenesisCare following the principles of evidenced based best practice.
Collaborate with oncologists and the multidisciplinary team as it relates to patient care
Work under the direct supervision of the Physician(s), APPs, and Nurses
Wound care and dressing changes under the direction of the Nurse or Physician
Assist as directed by the physician(s) and/or APPs in procedures/treatments
Draw blood for various lab tests as ordered
Responsible for cleaning and restocking consult rooms, as needed.
Provide patient education as directed by physicians/APPs/nurses
Accurately document patient data; past and current medical history, allergies, medications
Obtain vital signs and report any abnormal findings to the physicians/APPs or nurses
Administer medications under the supervision of the physician(s) that aligns with GenesisCare policy and procedure
Maintain open communication with front office personnel and members of the health care team.
Schedule and follow-up to assure completion on all diagnostic studies that are ordered including proper documentation and obtain physician’s signature on test result.
Acquire results and notify physician(s) of results on all interim reports.
Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, family, and friends
Attend annual OSHA/Biomedical update meetings and application in the clinical setting
Protect patients and their families by adhering to HIPPA and infection control policy and procedure
Key working relationships:
As a Medical Assistant, you need to develop strong relationships with the following internal parties:
Proficient in computer documentation with knowledge of Microsoft applications
Properly control the release of proprietary and confidential information
Scheduling appointments and diagnostic tests as directed by physician/APP
Obtain prior authorizations from insurance companies
Arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services
Handle correspondence, test results, etc
Obtain medical clearance for patients prior to procedures or certain treatments
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma
1 year experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
Current BLS certification
If applicable to your state: Certification/Registration as a Medical Assistant

Minimum Physical Capabilities:
In order to be able to perform normal duties as a Medical Assistant, the worker must be able to perform all of the following physical capabilities:
Lift up to 22 lbs, occasionally waist to shoulder height
Unrestricted pushing and pulling waist to shoulder height
Unrestricted reaching
Sitting for up to 30mins at a time
Unrestricted standing and walking
Unrestricted bending and squatting
