The Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) is recruiting for a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant 3
What you will be doing:
This position serves as the Outpatient Competency Restoration PNA. The incumbent will work on a small and dedicated team to support psychology staff in initiating Outpatient and Jail Based Competency Restoration. This team is expected to be close knit and self-reliant and will function primarily outside of API in the community and in the jail.

The selected candidate will work in an environment that is fast paced, busy and challenging at times, but embraces collaboration through working closely with supervisors, managers, and personnel to assist in providing services to Alaska Psychiatric Institute.
This position is located at 3700 Piper Street in the U-MED district of east Anchorage which offers several maintained walking trails, parks and nearby lakes. This area is filled with several restaurants, shopping stores, and has easy access to public transportation

Who we are looking for:
We are looking for a candidate with the following competencies.
  • Reliability. This is a small team and requires individuals who can be punctual and present as scheduled.
  • Strong ability to predict, prevent, and manage a behavioral crisis. De-escalation techniques, critical thinking, and the ability to act under pressure are essential to this role.
  • Openness to learning. Willing to learn new approaches, tasks, and ideas as needed to facilitate the success of the program(s).
  • Willing and able to work with individuals experiencing mental illness who also have legal involvement in a respectful, compassionate, and trauma informed fashion.

BACKGROUND CHECK
The successful candidate must pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a state and FBI fingerprint-based background check.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska.
OR
One year of experience directly working with and providing paraprofessional aide, treatment, and/or rehabilitation services to patients or clients who have been diagnosed with or experience mental illness, behavioral or cognitive disorders, and/or addiction as part of assisted living, independent living, or treatment services, home, or facility setting.

Substitution:
Post-secondary education in psychology, sociology, mental health, and/or chemical dependency may substitute for up to six months of the requisite experience (2.67 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).

Special Note:
Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

Additional Required Information

At the time of application are requested to submit:

At time of interview applicant must submit:
  • List of three (3) professional references, including daytime phone numbers, two (2) of which are from a current or former supervisor.
  • Copies of your two (2) most recent performance evaluations, or two (2) letters of professional reference

If selected for the position and prior to hire, applicant will be asked to:
1. Submit to fingerprinting and background check screening.
2. Provide proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella Immunizations.
3. Provide proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or declination statement)
4. Provide annual Influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement.
5. Proof of Tuberculosis screening within past 12 months.
6. Proof of COVID Vaccination or exemption.

COVID-19 Vaccination
The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) require the incumbent of this position at the Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) to be fully vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. All newly hired employees must provide proof of being fully vaccinated. The CMS also provides for a vaccine exemption based on recognized medical conditions or religious beliefs.
