About us

The Dementia Research Centre, based in the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, is a hub for patient-centred research into dementias. As well as clinical studies and trials in Alzheimer’s disease and other common causes of dementia, we have particular expertise in young onset, inherited, and unusual dementias. The department’s work focuses on identifying and understanding the disease processes that cause dementia, the factors that influence these disease processes, ways to improve diagnosis and treatments, and how best to support people with dementia and their families.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to join the MRC National Survey of Health and Development Neuroimaging sub-study (also referred to as Insight 46) research team at the Dementia Research Centre. The focus of this major longitudinal research programme is to examine the neuropsychological, neuroimaging, and clinical effects of ageing in a sample of the 1946 British Birth Cohort. You may also contribute to other cohort studies and to ongoing cross-sectional and longitudinal studies of rare and young onset dementias at the Dementia Research Centre.

You will assist with the management of healthy older adults and subjects with dementia and cognitive impairment participating in these projects, including neuropsychological assessment. Duties will include co-ordination of research visits, administration of neuropsychological tests and clinical investigations, data curation and analysis, upkeep of equipment, preparation of test materials and, where appropriate, contributions towards publication of results.

An honorary contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.

The post is available from 01 August 2023 and funded by a grant from the Alzheimer’s Association for one year in the first instance.

If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, or have any queries regarding the application process, please contact the Institute of Neurology HR Team (ion.hradmin@ucl.ac.uk).

Informal enquiries regarding the role can be addressed to Molly Cartlidge (molly.cartlidge.20@ucl.ac.uk).

Excellent oral and written communication skills, a high level of consideration and care for patients and research subjects, and the ability to be meticulous and accurate in all aspects of work are also a requirement.

This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
