Every great story has a new beginning, and yours starts here.

Welcome to Warner Bros. Discovery… the stuff dreams are made of.

Who We Are…

When we say, “the stuff dreams are made of,” we’re not just referring to the world of wizards, dragons and superheroes, or even to the wonders of Planet Earth. Behind WBD’s vast portfolio of iconic content and beloved brands, are the storytellers bringing our characters to life, the creators bringing them to your living rooms and the dreamers creating what’s next…

From brilliant creatives, to technology trailblazers, across the globe, WBD offers career defining opportunities, thoughtfully curated benefits, and the tools to explore and grow into your best selves. Here you are supported, here you are celebrated, here you can thrive.

Your New Role…

As one of the world's news leaders we are interested in creative and energetic people with diverse perspectives and talents. Our global team creates content consumed by millions of people every day, and with tectonic changes in the world, news and impactful storytelling are more important now than ever. A successful CNN intern is committed to quality journalism, has strong knowledge of international issues, a keen interest in the digital media landscape, and a sharp eye for the stories that spark conversation on a daily basis.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of dedicated and experienced journalists, attend regular editorial meetings and participate in the editorial process.

We offer 13 internships at our central London Bureau. We are looking for CNN's future: people with fresh ideas, innovative viewpoints, a willingness to work hard, and a commitment to the highest standards of journalism.

The internships are designed for journalism graduates or candidates from a related field seeking a career in journalism.

CNN advocates for diversity and welcomes candidates from all backgrounds, ethnicities, abilities and genders, and we are committed to creating both a workforce and content that are as diverse as the global audiences we serve.

Your Role Accountabilities…

The Newsdesk

The Newsdesk is the fuel that fires the furnaces of News telling at CNN.

The intern role demands the ability to multitask and create high-quality content for both digital and broadcast. As well as coordinating our team of live reporters around the world, we work to fact check and verify breaking news to alert across all CNN platforms. The ability to discover current breaking news stories, write succinctly and accurately, and deliver to deadline is key. Daily tasks include monitoring press conferences and live events, reaching out to press offices for statements and sourcing video/ images.

The Newsdesk also makes sure production teams and reporters know about their upcoming live appearances and liaises with the show producers to ensure these run smoothly. The ideal candidate will possess a fine attention to detail and should be confident to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.

News Programming

The News programming internship will offer the candidate a unique opportunity to work across two of CNNi’s flagship shows: Amanpour and Isa Soares Tonight. Two very different programmes, that allow you to gain experience in both long-form current affairs interviews, and breaking news rundowns. Your days will be varied and allow you to work on all aspects of production: writing scripts, pitching guest and story ideas, providing research notes & editorial briefs, producing segments, requesting reporters, creating graphics and working closely with show producers to understand how programmes are brought together.

Ideal candidates will have a passion for international news, be proactive and ready to throw themselves in to any task, have strong written skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Business Programming

This internship launches you into the centre of the world’s most consequential business news stories.

Working across CNN International’s flagship business TV shows - “First Move” with Julia Chatterley and “Quest Means Business” with Richard Quest – interns will gain hands-on experience with all facets of production going into these programmes: booking interviews with CEOs & world leaders, producing TV packages & outside field broadcasts, providing research notes & editorial briefs, writing digital articles for cnn.com.

Ideal candidates will have a passion for business news, excellent organisational & logistical skills, and a keen eye for what makes compelling television.

Interviews & guest booking

The content producing (or planning) internship is right in the heart of the newsroom and central to CNN’s coverage of breaking news stories. The main role of the planning desk is to find and secure the most compelling, interesting and relevant voices across the world to give insight into the top stories of the day. Guests can vary from eyewitnesses and experts in a specific field to CEO’s and world leaders. The role will include a mix of editorial input & logistics. You will be involved in researching the right voices, pre-interviewing guests, briefing show teams and work on the technical side to make sure the guests make it on air.

CNNi Production Features

The CNNi Productions team produces features content across TV, digital and social platforms. We cover a wide variety of subjects, from the environment and conservation, technology and business, to art and architecture and more. We produce short packages and half-hour feature programs for TV as well as digital articles, digital videos and interactives.

TV interns will predominantly help producers with researching and planning stories, writing scripts, and creating social content. There will also be an opportunity for them to get involved in producing digital content, including pitching and writing articles. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for a story, strong organisational skills, an ability to multi-task, and a good understanding of both TV and digital platforms.

Features Edit / Camera

This role is designed for Film/TV graduates. Primary responsibilities include assisting the Edit and Camera department. Premiere Pro Editing – Preparing edits, ingesting, logging. Independently editing short vignettes, TV packages and Feature shows. Camera – Assisting crews on TV shoots. Operating second camera as well as possibilities for independently shooting TV packages with a producer

Qualifications & Experience…

  • Strong writing and research skills.
  • Some form of journalism experience / training, for example: Blog, vlogs, member of student paper, personal website with written examples, articles.
  • Not currently studying full time.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of international news.
  • Detail-orientated and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Applications close Sunday 11th June 2023.

How We Get Things Done…

This last bit is probably the most important! Here at WBD, our guiding principles are the core values by which we operate and are central to how we get things done. You can find them at www.wbd.com/guiding-principles/ along with some insights from the team on what they mean and how they show up in their day to day.
