Job Description
NHFT are recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to work within the Sexual Health Services within HMP Peterborough to deliver a comprehensive range of needs-based health care services to patients requiring screening, diagnostics, and treatments for sexually transmitted and blood borne infections.
The post holder will support the delivery of high-quality nursing care to patients in HMP Peterborough Prison healthcare in conjunction with a registered sexual health nurse. This will include the delivery of care to patients who present with blood borne viruses infections and other sexually transmitted infections. The Band 4 Senior Sexual Health Healthcare Assistant is expected to work unsupervised for significant periods and undertake an extended role e.g patient focused health promotion activities and programmes so would need to work autonomously and manage their own workload.
- To provide a service for asymptomatic patients requesting a routine sexual health screen consisting of a urine sample or self-taken swab and blood tests
- Explaining procedures to patients and giving basic sexual health advice
- To provide basic advice and information to patients who attend the department and to those who are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection/HIV or BBVs
- Achieve competency in managing asymptomatic patients and independently take sexual histories, testing and coding of clinical activity and able to organise and facilitate telemedicine appointments
- To provide a Phlebotomy service for patients attending the service
- Undertake specific identified tests i.e., recording patients’ observations and pregnancy tests
- Process patient specimens and ensure transfer to diagnostic pathology labs as per protocol
- Manage normal laboratory results in line with Service protocols
- Booking clinic spaces and appointments on patient management systems
- Prepare clinic rooms prior to commencement of clinic sessions by ensuring the relevant equipment/supplies are available that clinic rooms are appropriately prepared prior to the commencement of each clinic
- Following training, and once signed off as competent, to act as a chaperone and assist nurse to undertake intimate examinations/procedures and or sexual health screening on patient
