Join MAG as an Aviation Firefighter Apprentice and play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of Manchester Airport. Working within airport operations, you will be responsible for responding to emergency situations and protecting life and property in aviation-specific incidents.
Contract Information:
- Initial 24-month fixed contract
- 42 Hours (Full Time - Shift and Day working)
- Permanent offer subject to meeting academic and professional standards
- Planned salary increases of no less than 10% throughout the apprenticeship (paid annually)
About the apprenticeship:
Embark on our Aviation Firefighter Apprenticeship and attend an 8-week residential course at the Fire Service College in Moreton on the Marsh, Gloucestershire. The program combines practical and classroom-based learning and includes the internationally recognised Firefighter Foundation Development Programme (FFDP) from the Fire Service College (FSC). Upon successful completion, apprentices will receive:
- A certificate from the Institute for Apprentices
- A professional qualification from Skills for Justice for completing the FSC FFDP
- Eligibility for professional registration with the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) at Technician (TIFireE) Level
About the role:
An aviation firefighter must adhere to all regulations and procedures in order to respond to emergency situations and protect life and property. Our firefighters must efficiently mobilise resources, maintain effective working relationships with internal and external bodies, and promote a professional image of the airport. Likewise, you will be required to maintain the required level of professional competence to uphold the airports license and your ability to respond to emergencies.
Other duties include providing feedback to superiors, proposing recommendations for improvement, maintaining equipment, and promoting safe working practices. Aviation firefighters are also responsible for personal and team compliance with health and safety policies, being knowledgeable about the airport facilities to assist passengers, and maintaining professional standards at all times.

Minimum Requirements:
- No prior Fire Service experience and UK resident for the last 3 years
- Grade 4 or above in Maths and English GCSE
- Valid Full UK Driving Licence
- Must pass health and fitness tests (hearing, eye, physical stamina, lung function)
