About the role

UCL Library Services holds printed collections of approximately two million volumes covering a range of disciplines and housed at various sites. The Collection Strategy team undertakes responsibility for aspects of collection management and development in support of the Library’s Collection Strategy.

We are looking for a part time Library Assistant, based in the Collection Strategy team undertaking scarcity checking of library material as part of a project relating to the implementation of the UCL Library Services Collection Strategy Framework. This involves undertaking title-by-title checking lists of potentially scarce library material on Jisc Library Compare, updating Excel spreadsheets and producing relevant reports.


Work Pattern: Tuesday & Wednesday or Wednesday & Thursday (applicant can choose one of these patterns). Hours either 08:30-17:00 (with a half hour unpaid lunch break) or 08:00-17:00 (with one hour unpaid lunch break)

You will be working as part of the IOE Library Customer Service team, you will provide excellent, and friendly, customer service both in the library and online. This is an on-campus role. It is not suitable for regular remote working.


About you

We are looking for applicant with experience of dealing with customers in a service environment and excellent communication skills are essential. A friendly and professional approach to providing customer service and working with colleagues is also a requirement of this post.

What we offer

This post is graded as UCL Grade 5 with salary in the range £24,144 - £28,344 per annum. (pro-rata for Part time) including London Allowance.

Probation Appointments are subject to a probationary period of 6 months.

Annual leave

Annual leave is 27 working days for a full-time member of staff and 6 UCL closure days in addition to 8 Bank Holidays.
