Department Overview
Markets, Banking, Payments and Resolution “MBPR” is one of four Deputy Governorships in the Bank and plays a critical role in the Bank’s mission to promote monetary policy and financial stability. It leads the Bank’s sterling market operations, runs the UK’s high value payments system, manages the UK’s foreign exchange reserves on behalf of HM Treasury, and acts as the ‘bank’ within the Bank of England. It uses its presence, expertise and influence in financial markets to inform and shape the Bank’s policy decisions and priorities and is home to the FinTech Hub to prepare the Bank for developments in financial technology. It is responsible for both the execution of resolutions when necessary and developing policy to make banks more resolvable both within the UK and internationally and to implement the resolution part of the post financial crisis agenda.

The newly formed Strategic Change & Operations (SCO) directorate is central to the success of MBPR. With around 120 staff, it works to devise and implement the operational strategy of the area and takes the lead on cross-divisional issues relating to: operational resilience; change delivery; business planning and oversight; challenge and mitigation of operational risk; people strategy including promoting diversity and inclusion; management and control of end-to-end business process and data flows in relation to market operations.

Job description
We are looking for an upbeat and hardworking individual to work as a Test Analyst on the UAT Services Team, within the SCO Change Delivery Team. The team is primarily responsible for the co-ordination and execution of user acceptance testing for system change across Markets and Banking divisions. This role offers great exposure to operational business teams across the two divisions as well as exposure to development and testing teams in Technology.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is interested in working hands on with system change. Tasks include reviewing business user's system needs, crafting tests to ensure those needs are met, performing testing in the system(s) under test, identifying and re-testing any defects found and reporting test progress to business teams. Whilst in role, the successful applicant will have support to increase their understanding of the Software Testing Lifecycle (STLC) and will have an opportunity to acquire the externally recognised foundation level ISTQB certification.

Job Requirements
Activities will include:

  • Identifying the scope of testing from requirements and producing test artefacts like test conditions, test scripts and test evidence.
  • Working with business users to agree the scope of testing.
  • Performing user acceptance testing in systems and sending test evidence to business users for approval.
  • Raising, recording and tracking defects through to resolution and helping to identify their impacts on planned testing.
  • Producing test progress reports for business users and raising potential delays early to Senior Test Analysts and Test Leads.
  • Providing training and support to business users.

The successful candidate is likely to demonstrate most of the following attributes and experiences, but please don't be put off applying if you don't think you have everything on the list!

  • Attention to detail and active listening skills
  • The ability to multi-task, act with urgency to meet deadlines, often operating to fixed time limits and working calmly under pressure
  • A genuine interest in system change and user acceptance testing to help drive the 'why's' of what you're doing rather than just the 'what' and 'how'
  • Good IT skills with the ability to learn and understand the Bank systems under test
  • A proactive approach to work, seeking answers to questions and filling knowledge gaps to help optimise your performance and contribution to the team.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to different audiences
  • A team player, willing to help others to achieve results with the ability to work on your own initiative

Desirable Criteria

  • An understanding of or experience in user acceptance testing.
  • Desire to acquire knowledge and understanding of Bank systems
  • Able to identify and implement new processes or update current processes to be more efficient

Our Approach to Inclusion

The Bank values diversity, equity and inclusion. We play a key role in maintaining monetary and financial stability, and to do that effectively, we believe we need a workforce that reflects the society we serve.

We celebrate all forms of diversity, including (but not limited to) age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religion, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status. We believe that it’s by drawing on different perspectives and experiences that we’ll continue to make the best decisions for the public.

We welcome applications from individuals who work flexibly, including job shares and part time working patterns. We've also partnered with external organisations to support us in making adjustments for candidates and employees in the recruitment process where they're needed.

For most roles where work can be carried out at home, we aim for colleagues to spend half of their time in the office, with a minimum of 40% per month. Subject to that minimum requirement, individuals and managers should work together to find what works best for them, their team and stakeholders.

Finally, we're proud to be a member of the Disability Confident scheme. You can find more information on what this means here. If you wish to apply under this scheme, you should check the box in the ‘Candidate Personal Information’ under the ‘Disability Confident Scheme’ section of the application.
