Applications are open for the post of Festival Event Manager in the Department of Music, as part of 2023 PLAY! Festival, working closely with Performance Manager and Director of Performance.
PLAY! is a week-long, annual festival of music presented by the Department of Music, showcasing some of the best and most innovative modern, world and classical music at Royal Holloway, with events curated and performed by the staff and students of Royal Holloway. With pop-up recitals, jazz and music theatre gigs, talks and recital-lectures, an International Music Feast, new music from across the UK, plus the year's largest orchestral event, PLAY! offers a bundle of music-based events for all. PLAY! 2023 will feature our popular Festival Orchestra with Rebecca Miller, a day-long ChoirFest, masterclass with international opera singer Sarah Fox, a New Sounds event with flautist Carla Rees, In Conversation with Judith Weir CBE, our International Music Feast, plus a number of student-led collaborations and events.
This year's festival will take place between Monday, 5 June 2023 to Friday, 9 June 2023, in venues across campus and in the local community. The post holder will be expected to be available for the dates of the festival, where they will be rota’d by the Performance Manager. Please note that this role includes working to flexible and unsocial hours. Two successful applicants will be selected.
These roles are perfect for undergraduate or postgraduate students with the experience in event management, front-of-house work, guest or patron support experience, and/or hospitality. The Festival Event Managers will manage back and front of house duties, set-up event spaces for rehearsal/performance, oversee festival scheduling, welcoming and support guests, managing ticket sales and box office duties, coordinating artists, and carry-out light portering work. The two post holders will be working closely with the Performance Manager, where schedules and responsibilities will be assigned.
It is desirable that the candidate has prior experience in event management but is essential that they have worked or volunteered in a Front-of-House or Concert Management role before. It is essential that the candidate has the ability to manage multiple events and people simultaneously, has good time management and problem-solving skills, able to effectively communicate to a broad range of people, and is resilient when under pressure.
The post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London. There will also be the opportunity to work with local venue partners in nearby Englefield Green.
